1st Striker Fired Polymer Decision

Picked up my new M&P 9 this week. Stripped and cleaned it. Went to the range yesterday and put 100 rounds through it. Quite a difference from my all steel Shadow, especially in the trigger. Now I know what people mean by a gritty trigger, but still a pleasure to shoot! Looking forward to the Apex kit when it comes in. I'm also used to the blacked out rear sight of the Shadow. I found the 3 dot set up a little cluttered for my aging eyes so I blacked out the rear dots with a Sharpie when I got home. Can't wait to get back to the range this week!

The griitty feel comes from the trigger bar pushing the FPB up to allow the gun to fire. Apex domed the FTB and you will certainly notice the difference. If you want the front sight to jump out at you try fluorescent orange paint. You can get it at any hobby shop. Apply it by dipping a tooth pick in the paint then dabbing it in the concave white spot of the front sight. It works very much like a FO sight and costs only a couple of dollars.

The Apex trigger is night and day. If you use the stock trigger return spring on your M&P with the kit you will get the lightest pull, but the reset will be awful. I used the silver spring in the Apex kit, was my favourite trigger pull, but I've heard the apex trigger return springs dont last past 2-3k rounds, vs the stock spring that supposedly never needs to be changed.

Just something to consider when you install yours. Glad youre enjoying the gun.

Walther PPQ is the most accurate....if that is your most important criteria.

My first centre fire pistol was an M&P 9. Followed days later by a 1911 and a 686. The M&P 9 was just such a great deal and I knew that I'd be taking courses and competing. I've put well over 10000 rounds through the M&P and it is still the best value I have in a pistol. I added a Glock out of curiosity. There are other polymer striker fired pistols that interest me these days but the 1911 platform and wheel guns is where my handgun money seems to go.

The M&P Range kit can be had for so little ($500 on EE) and can do so much well that it is hard to suggest anything else as a first run at the polymer pack.
