Got my CORE earlier this year and haven't had a chance to get out so I figured I would pack the Wife and the dogs into the truck and go for some Ditch Chickens today.

3hrs in the bush and didn't see a single bird. :(

In fact the only "wildlife" we did see were carrying guns on their quads. :D

We stopped and talked to a guy and his young companion (son or grandson) and they hadn't seen anything either.

We were up behind the Skeetchestn Indian Reserve up above Savona through the FSR's up there.

Anyone wanna PM a newbie hunter with a good "spot" or two for birds around the Kamloops Region? ;)

Going for my first Deer next weekend.....hopefully I have better luck then.

A lot of successful hunters spend as much time scouting different areas before the season then they spend hunting during season.

Will be bringing the 410 with me next weekend so if there are any around......watch out.

I told my kids to go out scouting for me since they were going out for a walk anyway. :D

Here near Cold Lake we have the luxury of very recent seismo exploration trails cut into the boreal forest.
Just yesterday myself and Trevj went for a small game hunt & we came back with three bunnies and one ruffie. Mind you the resident wolves and coyotes have everything small with furs and feathers, fidgity & nervous. I expected a bigger harvest for half a days walking along twisty trails, but it was a fine walk in the woods regardless, and we were not empty-handed. He had his 10/22 & myself with a 20 gauge using #6 shot.
Oh BTW, the hares are dressed in white camoflage now.

I hunted deer for the first time Saturday. I loved it. Didn't even see a deer. Just the anticipation watching the treeline for hours waiting for one to come out. Slept like a baby after all the walking. I am definitely hooked. I had a great partner who after hours of waiting for them to come out tried to get them moving out of the thick bush for me. I waited at the treeline but still nothing. Next year I will defintely make more time for deer. I guess as this is the last week for deer I won't be getting out.

Went on my first hunt this weekend. Up at 0400 to drive just N of the Montana border. Got in place before sun up, saw 3-4 nice bucks and about 12 or so Doe's. Just as we had hunkered down to wait for the bucks to come back out of a coulee, we hear loud voices and 4 over weight jackass's crest the ridge opposite us.

Two doe's come out right in between these a-holes and us so I try to wave them off which resulted in one of them raising his rifle and SCOPING US. They eventually eff off after about 15 minutes of more loud talking and start blasting at least 8-9 shots in the coulee beside us (about 20 metre's away). We walk over there to give them s*** about completely ruining our morning hunt and run into one of the uber overweight morons.

He goes on to tell us that buddy who scoped us "thought we were deer" and was just going to shoot at our "movement" (no identified target). Says for all that blasting they got one doe and "maybe" wounded another but he "didn't want to go track it". Completely pissed and disgusted we tried to track it on our way out but saw no blood or wounded doe. So that was a positive.

Only ran into Mule deer the rest of the day and I had whitetail tags. Still loved every second of it though.

Richard, you need to bring your 6BR's with the Rempel ski-pod to snipe those bucks :sniper:

Glad you're joining the hunting ranks, now you're really one of us R:d: You should probably pop by Ian's place, he was telling how easy it is to get WT does there ;) (too bad doe season is done.. I got mine though, the day I missed the V-Bulls match... It's all good, I'm eating the deer pepperoni as I type this post :D).

Thats disgusting (the s***ty "hunters"), I don't understand how such unsafe and ignorant hunter's are so prevalent. The good news is that with their clear disregard for safety, in a couple more seasons they'll probably manage to take a few of themselves out with accidents. The bad news is that we (safe hunters) we'll get the rap when the stories hit the news.

Also if someone ever scopes me to ID what I am, I'd freaking lose it.
