Looking for a budget 1x4 for this 308? It has a pic rail so low ring opinions too please. I never shoot past 100 yards and mostly at 30--50 yds. I prefer steel rings, any ideas? thanks something with a wide FOV.

Hank, i have this gun in the mail. Is there anyway you could tell me what size rings i'll need for a 50mm objective? What ammo does it prefer?

I have about 5 maybe 6 of the Leopold 1-4x muzzleloader shotgun scopes, the crosshairs are thicker and I find them superb in the timber. Many of my rifles wearing them shoot MOA even considering the thin wire of the duplex covers over an inch at 100 yds.

Bushnell has a 1-4x24mm scope in the Prime line up. Illuminated dot #4 reticle, 30mm tube, solid warranty, strong and light. Pair it with just about any 30mm low ring. Can even get some cheap Weavers from CT that'll work fine on a rail.

A non sponsor store in Coquitlam named after an Asian feline has some 2.5x ultralight leupolds.

You could also try mounting a scout scope as far forward as you can. I’m a big fan of this setup.

Leupold VX freedom 1-4 scopes are a good deal with better glass than any other scope I’ve tried in that price range. You might like the hog plex reticule, I found the circle reticule surprisingly good for offhand shooting and quick target acquisition.

Vortex diamondback 1.75-5 is a sleeper hit imo, much better than the bushnell banner. A bit hard to find but there might still be one on the e.e. It has a larger objective on it too which you may like or find useful.

A Leupold VX-R 1-4 FireDot would be nice on your .308
Nice bright glass in these scopes and the adjustable red dot works great. I don't know if they are still made but you see them from time to time on the EE.

I just aquired one of these scopes to put on my Light weight Rem M600 rebarreled 308 truck - quad gun ! I like that RETICLE too ! RJ

I just picked up a demo 1.75-5x32 vortex diamondback on clearance at a local store. It is surprisingly nice for the price (amazing for the clearance price). I'm bummed the tube is too short for my Steyr zephyr without some kind of cantilever ring.

Scout scopes are neat but the quality of of LPVOs in the last years has made them a lot less appealing IMO. It's just as easy to shoot with a lpvo on 1 or 1.5x as it is with a scout setup, but you get a better field of view.

I agree on the scout scope point. A 2.5 x ultralite Leupold has enough eye relief to shoot with both eyes open, in my experience at least

Another issue with the diamondback is the weight. A vx freedom 2-7 is lighter

I want to try it on a big kicker and see how it holds up
