Just wondering guys the 2 gold dots that you can see on the side of the stock close to the receivers are they just for looks or is there something instead the stock behind them? This is the first Rem 700 i've ever owned so i dont know to much about them....I might sound like a dummy but i'm just wondering! Thanks for any info!!

Stock reinforcement...........

Those gold "dots" are actually a bronze pin that goes right through the stock in the recoil lug area to, as 303 says, reinforce the stock in this vulnerable area. some heavy recoiling rifles have a lot more reinforcement in this area. My 308 Norma Mag has a threaded bolt through the stock there with a large steel block bedded into the wood for the recoil lug to rest against inside. Regards, Eagleye.

But, they aren't in the recoil lug area. They are through the web behind the magazine and in front of the trigger. A common place for stocks to crack is through that web. Remington started doing that with the 721 model and has continued it .
