Just looking for some thoughts on storing your rifle in a foam hard plastic case, or just use the case for transport?

And my next question may be more suited for the reloading forums, but we are all friends here Moly coated or not to moly coat, that is the question.

Foam attracts moisture, which rusts guns. Bad idea. Moly? Meh. Works for some people, not for others. I never found the results worth the trouble, although now that you can buy moly bullets (and not have to coat them yourself) it would be a lot easier. FWIW - dan

I agree with Dan, foam is not a good idea for long term storage. It holds moisture.
I sometimes wonder if it wicks lubes away from steel.
Moly? Messy!
Benefits? maybe for a varmint hunter, or target shooter.
For those of us who don't often need the finer edge of accuracy, (If Moly can even be given that) I don't feel it's worth it.

Never store your guns in a case, and foam and plastic is probably a worse case scenario.

Moly'ed bullets have no benefit in a hunting rifle. In a target gun or service rifle that sees several thousand rounds a year, there could be a benefit, but the bore must be treated with moly as well as the bullets or again there is little no benefit. Google Jim Ownes (jarheadtop.com). Jim is something of a service rifle guru in the States, and he markets a set of CD's on the service rifle in competition. He also takes the time to answer emails!! One of his CD's presents an interesting and informative treatise on moly.

Don't store in leather either. Saw a gorgeous unfired Colt in an estate sale, stored in the holster. Looked nice until you took it out... a shame!

I have helped a buddy clean the rust off a gun and reblue parts after he stored it in a foam lined hard case for 6 months; that was enough prompting for me to buy a cun cabinet.

I like moly it makes cleaning a breeze I like to shoot alot and there seems to be only positives that come with moly so why not?

My guns have always been stored in foam lined plastic cases with no ill effects.As long as the gun and case are dry when you put them away,there isn't a problem.

Be careful giving general advice like that...you may have a different result if you live in a very humid area, or where you store them in the house is very dry, etc etc. lots of variables here.

Kind of my point, thanks popcan. I've never had a problem here in AB (like Stubblejumper), just too dry out here I guess. When I lived in northern MB however, it really was an issue. - dan
