2 Pythons at auction

From what I read, in the States these have been going up in value ever since 2003 when they were discontinued. I admit the show may have drawn more attention to the “mystical” revolver but I can’t see the prices dropping. The Dirty Harry .44 Mag by comparison is still worth more today than it was in the 80’s. Even then, Smith & Wesson never really stopped making premium revolvers.
Pythons will always be in demand and any wishful thinking of prices dropping is just that, wishful. I wish the same! But it simply won’t come true, for either of us.

It will be interesting to see what the hammer price is on these Pythons. We'll see if the bidders get auction fever.
In Landsborough's last auction, a used S&W SD40VE with one mag sold for $400 + $60 BP = $460 + tax and shipping. Who in their right mind would bid that high when that exact gun, new and with two mags, is available at any number of online retailers for $350 or so????? People just get caught up in the excitement and get stupid.

Do you really think that a stupid show is driving python prices?
I would think that colt buyers/ collectors would have more brains than that.
But I have not watched it for a year.
The "collectors" that I know and deal with would be pissed at that statement.
I don't think it's unfair or unreasonable to suggest the show may have added to the already existing strong demand from collectors. You probably had a certain number of casual buyers motivated to acquire one because of the "cool" factor enhanced by the show.These would be in addition to the Colt collectors who would already be in the market. It's simple market economics that if you increase the demand of something that has a fixed supply the price will rise.

Just checked and the blued gun is now bid $2100 (Nickle is still at $3500)

The popularity of the show would have increased the number of people who wanted one. Increased demand on a limited number of guns that aren't made anymore would absolutely push prices up.
The only thing the collectors are pissed about is how many people who wouldn't consider themselves collectors now want this gun.
It's literally Economics 101 in university. If demand goes up and supply doesn't, the price you can sell for also goes up.
Yeah, I don't think anyone is claiming that they are the absolute best shooting revolver in the world. However, they are a very finely made firearm.....an iconic model from an iconic brand that is no longer in production. The TV show factor is another plus.

Do a search for "rick grimes" in past auctions on iCollector and you'll see that GTA has run a .44 Special stainless S&W Model 24 through their auctions (twice) and referred to it as "Rick Grimes' gun".
EDIT: Just to clarify for those who don't know, Rick Grimes is the lead character in The Walking Dead, who carries the Python. As near as I can tell, a S&W Model 24 has never been featured in the show, let alone brandished by Rick Grimes. So GTA is trying to capitalize on the Walking Dead phenomenon without even having a real "Rick Grimes' gun".

Someone just popped the nickle gun another $100 to $3600
JohnnyPython predicted 5K for the nickle and 3200 for the blued in post 3.
I'll go out on a limb and say $4600 for the nickle and $3000 for the blue. (all prices plus 15% auction fee and tax)
any other guesses?
I don't know if the German proofmarks on the Nickle one would add to or subtract from the value, but I'm adding a bit into my guess for its uniqueness. I'm also considering that they both appear to be mint and have the original box. Plus, the auction is still a week away.

Seriously though, that Gyrojet is a rare find. Too bad it doesn't come with at least one functional round.
I know, aren't those Gyrojets cool? A 13mm one went for $2100 in the August sale.....seems like a lot for a paperweight. Wouldn't it be neat if you could get ammo?
Interesting. Calgary Shooting Centre had one a year or so ago for around 2K as well. A greater number than I would expect in circulation up here. Conceivably the same gun I suppose, though I don't think the CSC one came with dummy rounds.
