Discovered my 2 nice metal stands stolen to my dismay over the weekend hunting trip. One was a 2 person set up and the other a single about a 1/4 mile apart in the same section of bush west of Hartney MB. I would not really mind if I found someone actually using one of them but to steal them is pretty bad. Heard that another one in roughly the same area was taken the night it was put up and it was chained down. If you are the one who did it, I hope this happens to you in some way shape or form so you get to experience what it feels like to have something stolen from you.

I've never had a stand stolen, but then again I don't leave them in the bush if I'm not using them on public land.

I've had a stand stolen off private property....very maddening...

Hope they fall out of it and..... (you can fill in the rest)

Sadly , it is the world in which we live . Trail cams and tree stands are stolen , and destroyed on a regular basis . Nothing can be left in the woods unattended these days.....

Why not just take the stand home with you when you're not using it?

Do you actually do that, every time? :)

I used to unscrew my lower steps and hide them, when I used hang-on stands. Then, I used a chain and a padlock on my ladder stands. Now, my big azz stays on the ground :)

No, not every time...if I'm coming back the next morning I'll leave it up. But I also realize there is a possibility of loosing it by doing so!

Yeah, if you give enough potential thieves an opportunity one of them will eventually take it. There's a whole other aspect to leaving a stand set up; the unspoken message that "this spot is mine for the season". The amount of resentment that can come from that will also make stands disappear. That doesn't make it right, but claiming the bush isn't right either. Best to just take them down, then they don't get stolen and everyone gets a fresh start everyday.

A cheap cable lock is usually a good enough deterrent for your average thief. You still hear of them getting cut every now and again but I'd have more piece of mind knowing they had to work a little harder for it.

We chain them to the tree to prevent theft. A couple bucks for some chain and lock is a lot better then paying for a whole new tree stand

Locks are really only for honest folks . If it was another hunter who stole the tree stand ; then it would not take long to shoot a lock off.....

if you're coming back in the morning and want to be in place and sitting quietly well before legal hrs, you best leave it there.

This!!

I have had almost everything stolen at one time or another from the bush. Kind of comes with the territory when working/trapping/hunting/fishing in remote locations. 3 years ago I left my camper for a day while hauling meat to town, and some jerks came with tools and stripped it. :(

if this was crown land, it may have been the Gov. most conservation officers don't like stands hanging on crown land.

Nope.
Legal from 2 weeks prior to the season until 2 weeks after.

I just pulled the last of my trail cams out of the bush today. With the opening of the General season, there are just too many guys wandering around now.
