2 theoretical SVT 40 questions

Don't take this to the bank, but I THINK I'm right:
1) yes, and issued a FRT for that format
2) I THINK they would have to be manufactured SPECIFICALLY for the new pistol... Like LAR specific mags for ARs. You can't just use any old 10 round mag manufactured for an AR.

Has to be registered, also verified and issued a new FRT number.
The magazines are DESIGNED for a rifle, so you would NOT be able to put 10 rounds into the firearm.
You will also have to have a newly manufactured barrel installed that meets legal pistol barrel length limits, cannot cut down or modify the original under 18.5 inches to best of my knowledge.
You are NOT the only person who wants to make a few 54R pistols, my friend is getting another Mosin soon to make into a bolt action pistol.
I'm working out details for an SVT pistol already.
A mosin is way easier, but for an SVT-40 all you need to do is cut down the gas piston, and get a new barrel made and affix the previous gas block system.

That's the crux of the matter. From a logical perspective it is still the same firearm but modified.Therefore the magazines were specifically manufactured for the firearm, and would be legal to use in the SVT 40 pistol unblocked. That ( theoretically) being the case, as with the LAR 15 pistol mags they could then lawfully be used unblocked in a full length rifle.

I'm fairly sure that is not the case. I believe it can be cut down, ( you would not be making it into an illegal firearm) but the barrel must not be cut to a prohibited length. A 6" barrel would be plenty long enough.
Edited to add. You are right it would need to be re barreled. PITA but doable.
I don't want to do it, but with any luck the means would justify the ends .
Who would like to test fire it ?

Sadly yes this is the case, this is why you can buy a shotgun with a 6.5" barrel but if you cut it down yourself it is prohibited.

Would be easier to just build a handful of 54r pistols that happen to use a magazine similar to the SVT. But then again, with the latest .50 Beowolf ruling and the RCMP doing whatever the hell they want, they'll most assuredly be classed "dual use".
I considered that, but then new magazines would need to be made which would defeat the whole purpose.
They may think they are above the law but they are not. It is as it is written, sometimes that can be good for us.
