If you have one of these for your mossberg 930 can you please tell me length of tube and spring. I ask because i purchased one and having all sorts of feeding issues, not sure if the one i have is for a 930.

What type of follower are you using?.

I have cut atleast 4 coils off mine.

It came with orange no jam follower that actually jams, my problem is sometimes the spring compresses and the spring and follower end up stuck in the extension tube. I then have to take the tube off to get the follower out. I checked the tube for burrs but its looks fine, so either my follower/spring is crap or i have the wrong ones.

What length is your spring after you cut 4 coils?

I'll have to find time to do this for you, but I bought the same kit as you did.

For some reason, I am suspecting the follower that is included binds on the exposed threading between the extension and the tube body.

Since shortening the spring and changing the follower to this one:
S&J-4.jpg
it ONLY happens if I shove too many rounds into the tube and cause an over-compression in the extension and the spring and/or follower bind. (is limited to 6.25 rounds of 2 3/4" shells. If I am not paying attention due to competition and not counting, and shove 7 rounds in there, it sticks)

Now your mileage may vary, but I cut off one coil at a time until the issue resolved itself or until it happened with less frequency.

For me, the magic number was four.

When I talked to Simon about it, he suspected some kits were sent out with the wrong length of spring.

Thanks for info, when you do have time can you also measure the length of the tube please. The follower sent to me with the spring is this one. I have always put 6 rounds of 2 3/4

I am going to measure the diameter of the oringinal so see if there is a difference.

Sorry, I did not get a chance to measure it last night. Got home late.

Another question, how are you blocking the +2 extension?

Could your blocking device be interfering with the spring in anyway?.

Jammin

I had a similar prob using a mag extension on a 870.

It turned out to web the transition area immediately after the threads on the extension tube. This area was ever so slightly high and a sharp angle.
I believe it was also prolly not threading home fully which left this transition more exposed than it would be if it was threaded home fully.

I went in with a Drexel and gently broke the edge of this transition area on the mag tube immediately after the threads and problem solved.
I also cleaned up and chased the threads on both the gun mag tube Ian's the mag extension which allowed the extension to fully seat and eliminate this transition area. I did both approaches at the same time so not sure which was the problem but it totally eliminated the problem which was exactly as you were/are having. In hindsight I believe the mag tube not othrwading fully home was the biggest culprit.

Good luck

Back to stock config and legal, I checked and your correct it needs to be blocked, i assumed it was right when i purchased. It would have been nice for who ever made these things to put a note or instructions indicating it needs to be blocked.

Fear not, it 'tis an easy fix with about $10 and roughly an hour.

Gregg11 has a great DIY thread on how to "cap that sucka off"

I've now gotten 2 requests to explain my Mag Ext. Mod.

I see the 930 is becoming a popular shotgun on the board, as it should be. I think it is an AMAZING firearm for the money. I don't have the funds for an M4 or M2 and, while I don't want to start a Moss./Ben. debate, I personally feel that for my non-military purposes, the 930 is the perfect gun for me. I do wish I had an M4 though (oh, if I ever win the lottery, hahah).

So, behold my insane MS Paint Skillz, and see below. This is how I did my extension.

Get a threaded steel rod from Kent. They're in those yellow bins in the hardware aisles at Kent. There are various diameters and lengths. I brought my mag tube with me so I could choose the right diameter for the hole that's in BBB's tube. The threaded rod doesn't need to be super thick, as there isn't any strain put on in laterally... Buy two nuts for said rod as well (as you can see....). Buy some permapoxy from cantire or wherever....

The spring collapses around the threaded rod as rounds are inserted. My epoxy dries HARD AS A ROCK, so I'm not concerned about the spring digging into it. But if you are, you could put an appropriately sized washer in there (a nickel with a hole drilled directly in the center would be just about perfect for the spring to rest on).

Be careful about where you finally set the nuts. It took some fiddling but you'll "feel" where to put the inside nut. Seat the inside nut just to the point where you can get 95% of that 6th 3" shell in the tube, but WILL NOT SEAT IN THE TUBE. BE WARNED: IF THAT 6TH 3" SHELL CAN SEAT IN THE TUBE, YOU'LL HAVE A PROHIBITED DEVICE. MAKE SURE YOU CANNOT SEAT THE 6TH 3" SHELL!!!!!! This will allow you to get about 6 and a half 2.75" shells in there (6+1+1 Ghost, pretty f**kin awesome). Then saw off the extra length of threaded rod and chuck it or keep it, up to you.

Enjoy your ###y Mossberg.

Mine is my absolute favourite shotty. I'll never sell it.

For some light reading, there is alot of coverage in terms of the legality of the +2 extentions in his thread as well.

Personally, I like it the way it looks, but You'd never be able to tell it apart from the rest of the crap on there :)

$3.99 wooden rod, cut 2inch section
$6.59 epoxy

cut 5-6 coils of spring and stretched to 19 inches

Done.
