20 G for waterfowl??

Ok cool Cat. Don't think too many people use a single for waterfowl but I'd still like to try it out just because. There's also a used O/U FEG 12ga full over mod with 28" barrels I've been looking at and wondering how that would serve me. Gotta do some research though concerning shooting non-toxic shots through this gun.

Steel doesn't normally go well with full choked guns, and often tight for them, causing scoring and other nasty stuff, let alone bad patterns.
Non toxic stuff can be very costly as well.
If you look however, you can find doubles and O/U's that are IC/mod.

Yeah probably won't be getting that O/U anyways even though it appears to be a pretty decent price at $325 flat. The single isn't approved for steel so couldn't even use it for ducks using the smaller shot sizes but I'd still love to use this simple shotgun for hunting upland game this season. Something alluring about a break action shotgun.

Open up the full choke on the Feg and you can shoot steel until the cows (in this case ducks) come home.

That ginger stached fellow is Lanny MacDonald, have some respect, he once brought the cup back to Calgary. Just joking of course that's a sweet haul of birdness right there.

Uh, no, that is NOT Lanny McDonald, here is a pic of my pal Lanny and I at the range!
Note that he is no longer a ginger, but a distinguished grey!!
Sir Lanny is , BTW a mean shot with either rifle or scattergun!

Heard the FEGs are pretty decent guns. Any experience with these O/Us gunsaholic or anyone else?

I had 3 Fegs in my collection at one time. I have one left which I will be hanging onto. I opened the chokes on one and used it for waterfowl for awhile. I never had a Feg over/under but the SxS's are well built and good value for the money.

Maybe I'll treat myself then but keep the chokes as they are and just use the gun for upland birds. Wonder how much would it cost to have a choke opened up?

Depends on where you are and who the gunsmith is. I had one opend up last summer and locally I paid $35.00. I've heard some smiths charge $75.00 or more per barrel.

Don't really know of the smiths in my area but wouldn't wanna pay more than $50 and definitely wouldn't want to be leaving any gun with a smith for more than a couple weeks. All these horror stories about not having a gun for over a year really make me hope I never "need" a gunsmiths services.
