So I’m currently on the hunt for a 20ga auto for the grandsons. I’m in a bit of a dilemma whether to purchase a newer youth model or alter an older semi to fit them.
I’ve read some of the newer guns do not cycle light loads too well or if at all. So that has me thinking of a proven older gun that does.
I had an older Ithaca semi that cycled them with no problem at all. Sad that I parted with it now.

Any real time reports on any of the newer guns that do cycle light loads well?

I have an abundance of target loads in 20 ga hence the desire to use them up with this gun.

I have a .20g Franchi Affinity that I broke in with 50 high brass loads, I’ve used it for 2 seasons of grouse hunting with target loads and not one issue, they also make a youth model.

The newer shotguns like the SX-3/4 Silver are pretty much flawless with light target loads, and the two Mossberg SA20 shotguns at our range, have been quite reliable as well.

Youth model guns typically have not just shorter butts but shorter barrels as well. Shorter barrels are easier to keep out of the mud and snow.

There was a very nice looking Remington 1100 in 20 gauge in the EE that sold recently.
I own the same gun and it shoots like loads all day every day , low base or high base rounds.
Hence my recommendation.
Anyways the EE is the first place to shop and then start with any or all of the banner site supporters and see what they have in the used inventory.

I have a Weatherby 18i and it cycles 7/8 oz loads fine but does not cycle 3/4oz loads
Once I get a few more rounds through it I think it will as I don’t have many rounds through it yet
