20 ga. O/U suggestions.

If you are talking "new" then some of the "less expensive" models would include:

$600'ish range -

Maverick
Stoeger Condor

$850/900'ish range -

Savage/Stevens 555
Mossberg Silver Reserve II
Tristar Hunter
Stoeger Condor Supreme

$1000'ish would put you into a Pointer

Any of the B's (Benelli, Beretta, Browning) are in the 2-4K range which may be "spending too much" :)

Economical O/U shotguns are like economical swords. You own one but its not much use other than for decoration. There are a lot of parts and workmanship to go into an O/U for it to work properly. When the price is cut, its also cut by quality and workmanship, and probably not last very long with any amount of use.

When I was in my twenties I took out a small loan for a proper o/u 12g that I've used for the last 30 some years, including competitions, skeet, sporting clays, dog clubs, and 3 decades of field hunting and putting fresh pheasants on the table. The guys who picked up the economical versions from the same time period no longer own the guns or they don't work, and if they didn't bite the bullet for a decent shotgun they spend the same price on 3 cheap ones since.

Like I said, you can have decorative swords or shotguns, or you can have the real thing made for real use. Just my opinion, but my Beretta has never been in the shop in 30 years. I used it twice again last week.

Another vote for Yildiz...... when I checked them all out, only Yildiz and CZ met my needs at a lower price point than a b gun....

Used B gun if you need to be economical. B is for Browning or Beretta, whichever fits you better.
Reliable quality is always a good investment.

This^^^. Hard to beat a Citori or Superposed, guns that will last several lifetimes, and retain value if ideas and interests change.

Mostly the Quacking sound Ducks make is them laughing at me. I truly suck with a shotgun. The only exception to this is a Stoeger Condor 12 ga that made even me look good....suppose it just fit me well. Stupidly i traded it. One thing to watch with the Stoegers is blueing; dont actually think its blueing, really rust easily.

CZ seems to have a few nice models available, not much chatter about them. I'm interested in the Green Ultralight 20 gauge but not much reveiews out. I'm just looking for a reliable working lightweight gun as I put a lot on a lot of miles while hunting so weight is an issue. I also don't care about fancy wood or engravings ;) so I think that disqualifies any "B" gun purchase...

I picked up a Savage Milano, which is a rebranded F.A.I.R. and appears to be identical except for the lack of fancy engraving. Nice gun with 28" barrels. Would have to find a used one now, as they are no longer sold by Savage.
