20 Gauge Fans ?

I got my son one of those mossberg 20 gauge 2 barrel combos last year. Poor kid hasnt been able to get anywhere near it. I find it so much easier to handle. It's light, short, points fast. The improvement in my shooting makes up for the loss of power.

I'm not a small guy either, but now the 12 gauge just feels like a piece of pipeline.

Anyone else have a similar experience ?
 
Somehow turned into an older dude, took a few years, so I went with the 20 after trying a friends 12! Leaves my shoulder intact even after a session with clays. Enjoy the 20!

I normally use a 12ga. for fun trap shooting . Scores are usually 21-24 with occasional 25 . Just for fun over the last 3-4
trips to trap range I took my 1940 Ithaca M-37 , in 20 ga. . My scores where the same as any 12 ga. I use. Last trip
on 1st. round was 25 . So ,,,,,,,,, 20 ga is all you need . Also all you need for small game in the bush .
Finding Target ammo. , cheaper , in 20 ga. may not be as easy as 12 ga. ? I reload both , so not an issue 4 me .
 
Yeah I'm down with 20gauge. Picked up a Sinsinati 18" pump gun at Edmonton Gun Show about a year ago, bought it for my girlfriend as well as an option for wilderness defense duty. Carrying the 12gauge everywhere was getting annoying.

It's a great little gun, my 14y.o. can shoot it (clays) comfortably, and with the Challenger slugs it will stop anything in the local area that tries to eat me.

Shooting 12 gauge doesn't bother me too much, and I keep my collection of Wingmasters for the occasional bird hunt as well as for something with more oomph should I end up in more predominant Grizz country. But there's nothing wrong with 20ga, just scarcity of ammunition variety. I wish it were less sketchy getting ammo out of USA because Rottwiel has some slugs I would like to try.

 
I love all gauges and actions they all have their place goose pit duck blind, upland birds and bunnies . I have been lucky enough to live through some great times.
 
been using .410 for grouse for years.. 12 is too much close up I find. Just got a new grouse getter in 20ga - Backpacker 2 from canadaammo, light, short 14" barrel going in a scabard on the quad should be a winner.

95 % of my shotgun hunting in the last 15 years weather it has been deer, turkey, rabbit, duck has been with 20g. The only time I ever take a 12g is for goose. I also use 20g for sporting clays. For whatever reason, I only feel comfortable behind a 20g. Always have, probably always will.
 
My go to upland game bird gun is usually the 28 g but mid winter pheasants that are well feathered up usually get the extra payload of the 20 or 16 g. The 12 is my mainstay sporting and trap gauge but I've been know to shoot sporting with all gauges including the 410.

Yeah me too. .28 I had on long term loan was by far mv fave ever. I dont own one because it's very difficult to find anything other than a single for a reasonable price, and ammo. I love it, but it's just not worth the investment.
 
I love 20s and have a half dozen kicking around the house but they do not shoot better or recoil less than a 12. If a person shoots a gun better than another, it has to do with fit, swing and how it patterns a certain pay load. An once of shot in a 12 with a certain charge will generally recoil less than it's 20 counter part with the same pay load and charge. Over an once, I find the 12s pattern better, at least the ones I have.

What makes the 20s and 28s special is how they carry and how quickly they come to point when well balanced.
