20 gauge users, opinions please.

I have a Stoeger o/u 20 and love it. Always wanted an o/u 20 and was about the only one I could afford lol. Came with multiple chokes and has a nice wooden stock. If you go o/u and never used one like I did, take it out and shoot it a bit before taking it in the woods cause it took me some getting used to, luckily you can select which barrel you want to fire first so until you get used to the bottom barrel you can still be fairly effective.

I have a Baikal single 20, Mossberg pump 20 and 410. Couple single 410`s. All flawless. Got 2 Weatherby SA-08 but in 12 ga. Love them to death as with anyone who tries them. The pump Weatherby`s I have tried are not so much fun. Slow action and grainy feel, get dirty very easy and tend to stick/jam because of it. As for a 20 weatherby I would love to try one as I find the 12`s I have are light and fast and very dependable, and during a charity event there was approximately 1000 rounds put through my synthetic (the barrel never got cool all day) at the trap shoot and the gun ran with out a hiccup.

If I could find a mag 20 Auto 5 I wouldn't be asking about these pretenders. I love my 12 gauge Auto 5 and would like to handle a 20 gauge version.

You'll be amazed as to how light the A5 20 gauge is compared to the 12.
Every time I pick mine up, I toss it in the air.

If you want a pump action don't forget to look at the Browning BPS...truly under rated 20ga shotguns. I've played with them all and I'd buy a used BPS, 870 Wingmaster, Ithaca 37, Remington 31 or Winchester Model 12 (Japan manufacture) before buying any of the 3 you listed. In a semi I'd go for the Remington 1100 LT-20, Browning B2000, Auto 5, Gold or the Winchester SX3.

The 20 gauge M37 is very light for sure, and other is a Franchi 48AL semi in 20, IF you ca find them!!
Also the Franchi Falconet or the newer Instinct L are lighter 20's as well.

I own several 20 gauge SXS and O/U guns and love 'em!
Sorry I can't comment on your choices except that owned a 20 gauge Wingmaster years ago and it was a very reliable and good shooting gun.

Next time your cooking up a batch of Pheasant Pie, I need to sneak over there and fondle a few, while you're distracted you know. See if I can talk you out of one. :)

I've owned several different 20g's from time to time - over/unders, singles, autos, pumps....
but the only 20g I've ever sold and immediately regretted... and eventually 4 years later had to find another one.... was a Beretta AL391 - love this autoloader!

I do like the BPS and if it was going to be a trap or waterfowl gun first it would be on the short list of top contenders and it may still be as I troll around local gunshops, but at a quick glance it seems the BPS when described as "robust" should more accurately be described as overweight.
I'm hoping to keep the budget on this to under 600, and I do want a 3" chamber and steel shot safe to make finding waterfowl suitable loads easier, so sadly many of the classics on the used market aren't suitable. Maybe I should take the easy route and just upgrade to a wingmaster, too bad it isn't offered with a matte finish.

I like mine as well. I will not make the mistake of selling it. My favourite for hunting is an old Browning Lightning 20.

I just wish the selection of 20 guage ammo was a diverse as 12 guage. If you live in a large center, I know you have a ton of options, but if you have CT or Wallyworld to pick from , you get shyte.

I am a big fan of the 20ga as well, if I could only have one shotgun it would be the 20. I have owned many over the years and currently have three.
I bought a FAIR made sxs a few years ago and can't seem to put it down, also have a Franchi o/u and my never sell A-5 mag 20 with matching slug barrel, can do anything with that gun. I have used a 20ga to take deer to rabbits and everything in between.

Don't know why you would want a matte finish... the Wingmaster's have a nice deep, rich bluing that wears well and resists rust... the ducks won't ever see it and the grouse don't care. Personally would recommend that you avoid the junk (Weatherby, Baikal etc...) A Wingmaster is a good way to go, or a Browning Silver if you want an auto... you might want to take a look at CZ's offerings in SXS and O/U... my son bought a Bobwhite 20 SXS and it is a dandy little gun... I am shooting 20's in Beretta 391, Browning Citori Lightning and BSS... it is definitely my favorite all-around upland gauge... there are times when I prefer a 28 but rarely a 12... I use my 12's almost exclusively for waterfowl these days.

love my Ithaca M37 featherlight 20 gauge with Modified choke, took everything up to goose (pre steel) and just can't leave it at home (12 gauge for migratory now)

I have an early 870 from the 50's in 20 ga with an IC choke barrel that I love, and a 1100 in 20 ga from about 67 with a skeet barrel and a Full choke barrel. Both have shot thousands of rounds over the years without ever jamming. I don't think I have ever shot the full choke 20 ga barrel .
I picked up a Mosberg Silver reserve o/u in 12 ga and have come to like it a lot. My friend has the matching SR in a 20/28 combo and he loves the 20.For a budget O/ U they shoot good and we haven't had any issues with them.

I have a few 20's but my favorite, by far, is my SxS CZ Bobwhite. 26" barrels, straight grip stock and a case colored receiver. Looks, points and handles like a dream. Great double 20 for under $700.
