So, let me k is if this is a stupid idea, but would there be an accurate load posible putting a 20 guage fostner lug in a 12 guage shot cup, some cardboard to keep it centred and a good high velocity powder load behind it?
The potential advantages would be this: 1) faster slug, with a better ballistic coefficient than the equal weight 12 guage slug( 300 grain or 3/4 oz for the sake of discussion) 2) a slug smaller than a tighter choke than you would want to fire a 12 guage through.
My thoughts are this; it seams to me that slugs from a smooth bore loose stability, and loos their marginal accuracy when they go trans-sonic at about 75 yards. A smaller faster slug would stay super sonic out to 100 yards. And if it could be fired through fixed choke shotguns that would also be good
Would this have the potential to be an accurate load, kinda like a sabot load for smooth bore shotguns?
Just thinking of a potential 100 yard slug load.
