I'm going to buy my 5 year old son his own AR. I started him on a SR-22 when he was 3.5 years old so he's no strange to strafing cans.

It will be a Stag because he's a southpaw so I have the option for 16" 3L or 20" 4L .

This will expire in 4 hours when I have to make my decision.

Just want to make my first poll. :p

Can't take 14.5" into the states on a form 6, nothing shorter than 16". I'm personally a 20" guy but the kids likes the shorter barrels.

Hes young. A 16" will be a tad easier for him to handle. I am sure he will be able to push it past 300m as well! Good to see parents keeping the kids involved! Kudos!

As far as taking the AR into the US is concerned, if the new AWB goes in as planned, barrel length is irrelevent as NFA items aren't permitted back into the US once they've been exported. Having said that, assume the worst and hope for the best. Question, why does your preference for a 20" model come into consideration since your son is partial to shorted barrel lengths? If I were you I'd go for the 16" and make your son happy. Afterall, if he doesn't like it, why would he shoot it?

Good point. My personal preference would be 10.5", but since this isn't an option - I voted for 16". I think there's minimal benefits going from a 16" to 20"

Thanks for the input gents.

The 3L 16" is ordered and paid for.

I showed Mateo the complete Stag lineup (Stags website lists 8 or so) and he, by himself, picked the 3L. Kind of interesting.

cant you pin and weld a 14.5 and it would be a 16-16.5" in the states?

go with 16" if that isnt a option.
