20 or 28 gauge?

Cat, I actually like the 28 barrels on a 20 frame. The gun of mine that I shoot the most weights 9 lbs and I find that a really light guna are more difficult to shoot well, the added weight of the 20 frame helps me a bit with follow through. If I spent more time shooting light weight guns this likely wouldn't be a problem but muscle memory has a better memory than I do!

On a skeet gun for sure I agree, but I use my 28's for hunting , and I carry them more than shoot them! LOL

Agree which is why I loved my baby framed they called it ruger red label 28ga so much for hunting:) all 6 pounds one ounce :)
To the OP if you reload shotgun now get a 28ga if you don't get a 20ga IMHO

I can see that messing up a guy, I take it a step further and switch guns two or three times a day on a bird hunt , just because I try and shoot them all- it's a curse! LMAO!!

What i'm hearing is it makes sense but don't do it cuz it would ruin our lifestyle ..guess i would agree time to go shopping again :)

For those who really can not decide - maybe as per picture below - Little Skeeters - are sleeves that slide into 20 gauge chambers to use 28 gauge shells. Obviously firing 28 gauge in a 20 gauge - so no weight savings, etc. I had bought an MEC loading thing for 28 gauge - do not have one for 20 gauge. I have an O/U in 28, then a SxS and O/U 20 gauge. The idea was that I could use my reloads in the 20 gauges - have never used the Little Skeeters yet - still have 20 gauge shells...

my experience is very limited to tried once and great of you want to hit a barn

When I do try them what to expect? Say 25 or 30 yards - 28 pattern going different place than the 20 pattern? 28 pattern blown? Was hoping to be able to hit dog-house size - say 4 feet x 4 feet? These ones have wall thickness about 0.025" - was hoping that was not a lot?? My 28 gauge re-loads almost all 3/4 ounce #6 or #7.5 lead shot.

Sorry Honestly cannot remember the distance and it was like 15 years ago so maybe made better now no idea
Know they were a royal pain to get the old hulls out of after fired also
Also remember the Seminole ??? worked much better

I have a set of Briley inserts for 20,28, and 410. I have cleaned a NSSA skeet course with the 20 gauge inserts
I have also shot pheasants with the 28 gauge inserts in a 12 gauge gun.
They are all only about 4" long except for the 410 inserts which are bout 10" I think.

I have several sets of those Lil Skeeters, they are useful for some things but I have one 16/20 gauge one that cracked lengthwise, not good. I currently have three different brands, the Gauge - Mate is best, it’s stainless steel of some kind, has excellent spring back and is slotted to allow it to stretch without cracking. They work well for hunting if you want to use very light loads in a particular gun but don’t want to add weight or mess with the balance like full length sub gauge tubes do. When hunting with these the whole adapter with the empty still inside must be extracted from the gun and then the empty case removed from the adapter. I carry a short piece of dowel to assist extraction but the spring back and highly polished interior of the Gauge Mates makes extraction easier.
