Was out for a few days this last week, and picked up a couple of button bucks. Saw plenty more out there, and these two are fat fat fat! Plenty to go around
Buck 1 (entrance):
Buck 1 (exit):
Buck 2 (exit; could not find an entrance wound until I skinned him out):
They were taken at 155 and 147 yards, both with a .260 Rem using 140 grain Nosler Partitions @ MV 2750. Both bullets exited and turned everything inside into scrambled mush. Both deer died in their tracks--bang, flop.
Moonlight in Alberta, coyotes singing in the background....
From near Clayton, ON (WMU 63B). Taken at 4:30 today 10 Nov. A strange four point - loooong tines, three on one side, and just the one on the other.
Had me bent over in my ground blind for 20 minutes watching him - heart beating like a rabbit. He started by standing on his hind legs 15yds from me doing his thing at a scrape, then he moved down into a field in stages, at one point staring in my direction motionless for about five minutes. Took him quartering towards me at about 60 yds, entrance and exit wounds right through the boiler room. Other than my bow kill, it's my first time it wasn't a "bang-flop". He ran about 30 yds, and when I heard a lot of racket in the woods, I knew he was a goner.
The end of a hard week hunting and he was the first deer I saw. Today on a hunch I changed out my newly built 98 Mauser 35 Whelen for my trusty 303 Brit No 4 Mk I Lee Enfield that did me so well last year. I'm not supersticious, but...
If I look happy in the pic it's because I am. Going out again on Monday to add to the buck and the doe my bud got on Wed.
