2006 ORA Precision Dates

Generally, the ORA competitions try to emulate the NSCC. This year the NSCC is incorporating the 200 meter double snap and the 700 meter selective deliberate into the aggregate. This might be the reason for the 2 day Kingston match. Just guessing at this point.

Hopefully the Hun Head will stay...very nice target (challenging) for the snaps.

Precision III July 16 Mons Range
They should change this, the NSCC is happening on this day. Some competitors will be missing. Then again, the schedule is "tentative".

I do know that they changed the targets for the 300 agony snap from the huns head to the fig 12c. Don't know why this was done other then it made the matches easier to shoot and everyone was happier with the higher scores. Hey maybe the'll go to the bigger fig 12 instead, then I can get a higher score. There was talk of getting rid of the mover and putting in the 700 deliberate. Seems they are slowly watering down the matches to make them easier.

The website still has the 2002 precision information on it.

The Fig 14 targets were not ordered at the last shoot by mistake. Therefore, we used a Fig12c for 300y. I don't believe that this is now the norm as Fig14's are readily available as long as the organizers reserve the proper types and number of targets ahead of time from the Range Warden ;) BTW, I haven't heard of any pending changes to any of the matches and would be surprised if they were being considered. At the de-brief, we kicked some ideas around but most people were agreed on leaving the match format the same as the National matches in Connaught.

The 700 Deliberate and 200 Snap were trialed at NSCC last year. I recall that the response was positive. The Rule book on the DCRA web site has a description of the match conditions.

Are the distances measured in meters of yards? The ORA website says yards. (I am new to this)

Targets at ORA events

Don't know if you are aware but you can always ask questions of the ORA directly by email through their website. Their webmaster bounces them to the relevant person for response.

I guess it sucks to be a .308 155 gr. shooter at the other ranges that the ORA shoot at.... namely Winona & Cedar Springs. I was just reading this at the ORA website..... I like launching the 155 gr. AMAX so I believe that I can shoot my AMAX 155 gr. bullet at Base Boredom.

I just visited the ORA Website and under "Latest News" link, they are announcing the 155 gr. bullet ban at Winona and Cedar Springs. Those ORA shooters might just have to shoot a lighter bullet like a .308 125 gr. PSP bullet, my favourite for launching groundhogs with my M14. yuk, yuk, yuk

Cheers,
Barney

The issue of the 155's is being worked on at a much higher level. The wheels of DND move very slowly when it comes to approve things, but only takes a nano-second to say NO to something they know nothing about. As the DND only knows of 147 FMJ, and have never heard of 80 grain .223 bullets they are a little reluctant to change.
We all hope it will be resolved shortly.

Match has been moved to Vimy range (Borden) for Sun June 4 (tomorrow). This booking is confirmed.
The match was finally completed at Mons range under sunny skies, and challenging winds. Congratulations to ONT0001 for winning with a score of 238 outta 250. Good thing too, he claimed he needed the winnings to buy a hamburger for supper!
