Hello,
Just curious, I got Marlin 1895GS in 45/70 dating back to 2007 thus pre-Remington (with JM stamped) on a trade just recently, didn't have the chance to shoot it yet, but I noticed the rifling seems very shallow, sort of faint, it is defined, you can see it, but seems very shallow. The guide guns are advertised as "18.5" with deep-cut Ballard-type rifling" but I don't see anything deep about it. The previous owner says the gun only fired a couple of boxes and I belive it as the receiver, stock and everything else is in a great shape and has almost no scratches or wear marks. Are the shallow groves normal or is there something not right with the gun?

I've found the rifling (on both "real" marlins and remlins) to be surprisingly all over the map. I've seen some with literally twice as deep of rifling as others.

I DO think that they are full of crap on their "deep cut ballar style rifling" sales pitch, due to the fact that lots of their rifles have have got rifling that is so shallow.

Anyone else on the seemingly shallow rifling? Put me at ease here, is that shallow rifling normal?

'Micro-groove' rifling. I had an 1895 that looked similar to what you're talking about, and it was sold to me as having micro-groove rifling.

I think it was fairly standard on pre-2007 Marlins...

A 2007 Guide Gun does not have micro-groove rifling.
Your description of the rifling matches what I have in my 2006 Guide Gun.
Mine shoots MOA.
Don't worry, it's fine.
