thanks for all the info everyone. Just one question - seems like the common upgrades are the rod guide and shims under the gas tube, what makes you notice these flaws? does it fail to cycle, jam, not accurate etc?
Not necessarily stopping the shooting cycle or dicks falling off, but the gas cylinder and front band will be loose (like my Winchester 12.3 Prohib M14 ). Often the op rod guide (the figure 8 thingy under the barrel) can be loose, so we just knock out the pin (which may shatter depending on which High school shop class put your M305 together) and then knurl the barrel to raise the metal.
You should see how sloppy the op rod guide is on my Winchester M14 (yes, it's a real M14 from USA)... shake, rattle, and roll!
We sort out these loose items at the TSE (Heritage near Blackfoot) just a month or so ago (13 Sep 2015) M14 clinic I just delivered there!

Cheers,
Barney
And YES, I own BOTH an LRB M25 and a Norinco M305 in 2007 vintage!
