2008 IDPA Nationals (Videos and Photos added)

Bags are packed, pistol cleaned & ammo prepared, paperwork in order. Plane leaves early in the morning. I'm pumped.......

Arrived late this afternoon, dropped of our bags in our room and then went directly to the Hospitality Room.

Saw a whole bunch of the people I've met over the last couple of years shooting major matches and drank lots of free beer!

Went to the hotel bar and ran into Kitty R. and Cindy B. Drank more beer and shared tons of laughs! Hope I'm not in too rough shape in the morning..... :puke:

Don't shoot until Friday so it shouldn't be too bad. I'll have to take it easy tomorrow evening. ;)

Thanks Jim. Jay B. (also from ATHL and 'Words Twice' here on CGN) arrived today so the both of us will do our best to bring home some hardware.

Ryan T. (my buddy from Texas) and I went to the range this morning and scoped out the stages. (We shoot tomorrow and Saturday) All the stages look fun and many look quite challenging.

In the afternoon, the three of us went to Cabelas. WOW!!! I've only ever browsed through their catalogue and never been to a store. The Handgun counter was chock full of some really cool guns; regrettably most of which are illegal in Canada. There were short barreled S&W revolvers, compact XDs, and all sorts of Kahr cocealable pistols. I wonder how long it took the staff to wipe my drool of the glass counter tops.....

Back to the hospitality room tonight for more free beer and finger foods and catching up with more of the great people I've met over the last couple of years shooting this great sport of IDPA.

Finally get to shoot tomorrow. I can hardly wait!!!

Mass and I both shot well today and got some good pictures to boot. Mass is downloading them from his camera and might even get them up tonight.

Tomorrow we are shooting 7 more stages, including 2 low light stages.

Keep watching...

Hey Mate - Good Job! Looking forward to you being back in the office on Tuesday with lots of pics and stories.

Go G3 Branch!!!

Here's a teaser video of Jay B. shooting Stage 5 - 'Not Another Biker Gang Stage'. (It was the first stage that we shot today)

I'll try to post more tomorrow afternoon after we finish shooting the rest of the match....

Just got back from the awards banquet.

I came in 10th Expert in ESP (out of 22 - not high enough for a trophy) with a score of 304.17 (81).

Jay B. came in 11th Sharpshooter in CDP (out of 34) with a score of 374.14 (137).

Here is a photo of him being presented his trophy by Bill Wilson:

Mass - congrats to you and Jay for represetning us so well at the nationals!

I'm sitting in the Philadelphia airport and I've got a couple of hours before my flight takes off so here are some videos and photos:

Here is a video of me shooting Stage 1 - 'Hurricane Attack'.

Here is a video of Jay B. shooting Stage 1.

Jay B. waiting for the start signal on Stage 2 - 'Buggy Ride Ruckus'. The SO is 'Iron Mike' Webb from Texas. (If the hat didn't already give that away! ;) )

A video of me shooting Stage 2. I had a 'Down 8 - FTN' (the only one I had in the match) on that stage and if I'd made up the miss I would have been in the running for a trophy. :slap:

A Video of Laura T-R. shooting Stage 2. Laura is a full Colonel - Medical Officer in the US Air Force.

A video of Jay B. shooting Stage 3 - 'The Fatal Funnel'.

A video of Jay B. shooting Stage 4 - 'Junk Bandits'.

My buddy Ryan T. from Texas getting set up to shoot Stage 5 - 'Not Another Bike Gang Stage'.

100_1977.jpg

Joe A. engaging the moving targets on Stage 5. Joe is from Ohio and shot most of the stages with a lit cigar clenched between his teeth.

100_1982.jpg

Jose T. engaging the targets while withdrawing to cover on Stage 6 - 'After the Buy, Stay Alert!'. Jose is Laura's husband and a retired USMC Warrant Officer.

Me engaging the final targets in 'Tactical Priority' from cover on Stage 6.

A video of Laura T-R. shooting Stage 7 - 'Pole Position'.

Carl P. waiting for the start signal on Stage 8 - 'Switch Iron surprise'. Carl is from Pennsylvania.

Joe A. using cover to sneek up on T4 on Stage 8.

100_2012.jpg

Me engaging the last targets in 'Tactical Priority' from cover on Stage 8.

A video of Ryan T. shooting Stage 9 - 'Bad Dogs, No Biscuits'.

100_2037.jpg

Me engaging the 'dogs' owners' from behind cover on Stage 9.

A video of Ryan T. shooting Stage 10 - 'Collateral'. Ryan forgot to 'press check' after the LAMR and experienced one of the two loudest sounds in a match (a click when expecting a bang) but recovered well.

100_2035.jpg

Anne-Marie T. shooting Stage 10. No, there's no problem with the colour settings on your monitor. Anne-Marie's Glock is purple. (her favourite colour)

Carl P. waiting for the start signal on Stage 11 - 'Impound Lot Attack'

A video of Ryan T. shooting Stage 11.

I didn't get any photos or videos of Stage 12 - 'Wild Bill Hickok Style' or Stage 13 - 'Neighborhood Attack'. or Stage 14 - 'Guthsville Barricade Drill'. (These were our last three stages on Friday afternoon)

Stage 12 was particularly challenging. It consisted of one round 'head shot' fired at a very fast 'out & back' target. Very few managed to hit the target but I'm proud to say I got it 'right between the lookers'!!!! :D

100_2055.jpg

Me waiting for the start signal on String 1 of Stage 15 - '2008 Nationals Standards'.

100_2058.jpg

Jay B. waiting for his turn to shoot String 2 of Stage 15.

100_2059.jpg

Me shooting 'strong hand only' on String 2 of Stage 15.

A video of me shooting String 3 of Stage 15.

I didn't get any photos or videos of Stage 16 - 'Home Invasion Gun Battle' or Stage 17 - 'Camping Chaos' since they were both 'low light' stages and the 'flash' from the camera would've been distracting to the shooters and SOs. Suffice to say they were challenging yet lots of fun to shoot.

All in all, I think everyone had a great time at the 2008 IDPA Nationals. This wasn't my first Nationals and will definitely not be my last.

(Rumour has it that next year's Nationals will be at USSA in Tulsa! :dancingbanana: )
