I don't know what variables you might be refering to but I would think sanctioning a 'Provincial Championship' would be SOP....no?
If it is even a question the red flags go up for me.
I have looked at a lot of the threads of your shoots. Looks like a lot of fun and I would really like to come out your way.
But in the interests of supporting IDPA Canada I would give my preference to sanctioned matches. Meaning that my travel dollars are limited and if I have a choice between going to sanctioned vs non-sanctioned shoots I will support the club paying the sanction fee first.
But that is just my preference

John
I can only speak for myself, but the variables I refer to is life in general:
These two monkeys, amongst other 'stuff' ensures I'm kept on my toes.
While I agree with your comment in principle, my first and foremost consideration is to ensure the match happens.
Stages need to be designed, props need to be made, targets, tape, paint, and a host of other supplies need to get up to the range, word needs to get out, volunteers need to be organized, etc. etc.
My next consideration with a new club is to ensure we have regulars continue, and new blood joininig the sport. This is harder than it seems.
While I'd love to do what is necessary to attract out of province shooters, the reality is I'd much rather attract 10 new locals that have the potential to become regulars than have a couple of guys from one province over once a year.
I only directed one match last year, and can tell you it was an eye opener.
Unless someone has done it for real, they have no comprehension of how much time it sucks up.
I know full well that I did not experience the full weight of what needed to happen as Mass still did the majority of work. Truth is, it wouldn't have happened without him.
If I managed to get all of what is 'required' with the exception of #1 and #10, and still have a good match, (which happened) then I count that as a success.
Some people on this forum, reading and posting in this thread need to put this into perspective.
Whatever personal issues you have, you cannot deny the following:
Massimo is directly responsible for the sucesses we have had with ATHL.
It is the most successful IDPA affiliated club in Canada, and has the likelyhood of having the bigest growth potential. It would not have happened without him. Full stop.
