Buying a ruger Hawkeye stainless syn from 09.

Question
Were all ruger Hawkeye, s in 358 ultra flimsy?

RUGER OEM synthetic stocks are one of the best standard factory synthetic stocks available... many who were blessed with excellent walnut buy a synthetic for bush work to keep the original in good condition...

I just hear/read a lot about extensive bedding including plastic added with regard to the Hawkeye synthetic

Google savage synthetic bedding... then you will read about flimsy stocks.

Yes I encountered that when purchasing one of their first ML10II muzzle loaders. You could almost twist it a 1/4 turn end to end. So got one of their laminates which I wish would have came with wheels

I need a shorter length of pull on mine so I replaced it with a Boyd's. Apparently the plastic ones don't shorten very well.

Boyd's stocks are heavy, due to the nature of Diamondwood laminate... the birch layers are heavily impregnated with epoxy and result in a very dense material.... you wouldn't want one on a "mountain" rifle... but personally, I like extra weight... it steadies offhand shooting... and carrying an extra pound on my shoulder offsets the extra pounds around my waist.
