I was sighting in my Savage 30-06 yesterday with a hunting load
I built up last year. I dialed my group in at 3 inches high at 100 meters and when I went out to the 200 meter target I found my group still at three inches high. I am shooting Barnes 168gr ttsx over 46.6gr of IMR 4064 which should give me about 2600fps. Any ideas of why I am not seeing bullet drop???

I just punched some numbers in a ballistic calculator for you, If you're 3" high at 100, you should be 1.7" high at 200, and dead on at 225-230yds. So you're only 1.3" off at 200(based on the numbers you gave us). What are you using for a rest? Any chance that there is shooter error at 200? Have you shot your loads over a chrony or are you just guesstimating the velocity?

As long as you're getting OK groups I wouldn't worry too much about 1.3" for a hunting load. Should still result in a hit to the vitals!

I'm not entirely positive ,,but punching in some 30/06 factory load ballistic info,,,sound's like your rifle is somewhat zero"d at 250yd,,there for your gun is probably shooting where it should be

Your bullets are dropping. The trajectory is an arc and at two points the bullet will intersect the point of aim. I checked the norma page which has a ballistics program and it shows a poi of about 2 inches high @ 200m for a 3 inch poi @ 100m for a load approximating yours. Depending on the rifle's accuracy at 200m its possible that the group actually an inch lower than you thought. I have seen similar results for different rifles that I have shot.
