Well folks things have started wrapping up for another year. Some have left the camp already, obviously myself included but there are still the die hards sitting in the middle of nowhere saskatchewan popping gophers and killing beers. The shoot this year was in my opinion the best yet! It was unfortunate that some of our old friends could not be there but others joined for the first time. As well we still had a good turn out from the regulars and I have to say as always, it was an absolute pleasure to share a camp with these folks. They really are a great bunch of people and I am very blessed to have been able to be there.

The weather was, um, better this year? Well on the bright side it didn't snow. On the other hand it rained sideways. We got hammered by severe thunder storms. We lucked out in the fact the great white combine missed us but the town of Swift Current wasn't so lucky. The storms that hit us left tennis ball sized hail in store for swift. My understanding is there was alot of damage from that to those poor folks who were already coping with a rough year. Also Captain2k_ca spotted a funnel cloud as he was returning back into camp. I can't say whether or not we had a near miss with a tornado but I did come across this steel bin that was thrown off it's fondation about 50 yards and torn up all to Hell, about 2 miles from camp.

The storms didn't keep us down for long though. There was lots of shooting done and good times had. Parties left camp throughout the day to take to the fields and everyone shared a fire come nightfall. Once the bad storms started moving in, a large shelter was constructed to provide protection through the worst Saskatchewan had to offer. Thanks to Farmerharv for providing the tarps and lumber.

In total I think we had around 19 to 20 people show up as well as a few kids and several dogs. The campsite was relativily calm until one bad wind storm snapped a tree at the base right next to several tents that was only remaining upright because it was snagged on another tree. We had the landowner bring in a tractor and used it to pull down the tree and together with my pick up we dragged it out. It didn't take long before the crew had it disected and stacked ready to be used in next years fire. Thankfully nobody was hurt but it left an impression!

I think everyone will agree when I say regardless of what the weather was like it was still a great trip and I look foward to seeing everyone again next year.

I would also like to thank Clay from Prophet River for donating a shooting mono-pod which was given to Farmer harv for being first to arrive and also a box of Hornady .204 brass which was awarded to Andrewe. I hope you guys get good use out of them. Thanks also to Captain2K_ca for helping to put this together and to everyone who came out and braved the miserableness of another Saskatchewan Summer. Brrr. I do have to admit, I do look foward to one year going off without a hitch, fire, tornado or a blizzard! Is that too much to ask.....

So did you guys get any gopher shooting in this year? Sure seem to have bad luck with the weather for your annual get together. FS

it was a great shoot... got to meet some new people and pop some gophers...

Sunday was the best day of them all for me... sat at one field and shot around 80rnds with the .223 from 20yrds to 300yrds... probably got about 50 of the little buggers in a hour of shooting....

I notice the awning is still on the trailer.. folded after the first big wind storm... around 80K +!!

I am already planning for next year!

Too much fun guys. Had a real blast. :shotgun:

It was really great to meet everyone, and see a couple of familiar faces. Would have liked Harv and Pharoh to stick around a little longer, but I understand everyone has sh*t to do. Weather wasn't too bad, at least it would clear up throughout the day to allow us to get out shooting.

Anyway, I have lots of pics. Here's a bunch, and if anyone doesn't want their mug posted on here, let me know, I'll take it down. Feel free to post any pics of me, but be warned; they wont be pretty :D.

On with the pics!:

Well, I think that's lots for now, still have a bunch more, but these were my favorites. Thanks again to the organizers of this weekend, couldn't have been any better (Certainly there is no better company for a weekend of shooting). And a special thanks to Ernie for making this weekend possible. Cant wait till next year folks, hope to see everyone there again!

Randas and I are homeward boundbound, just passing Regina and from the looks of it dragging the rain with us to Winnipeg. Had a blast as always, yesterday was an awsome sunny day, kelly showed us a honey hole that kept my .223's barrel hot for two hole hours. Great times, great people. Will post pic's when I get home.

Oooh, that lucky Randas. Had me thinking next year I might fly down to Winnipeg so I could make the trip with kevin.303, and have him cook me all my meals. Still got to have a taste of his Muskox steak (No, thats not a euphemism), delicious!

I'll have one of those up tommorrow!!! Along with others. Spending time with family tonight. Stay tuned....I think I even have one of Pharoh2 and the wookie bong or whatever it was called.

I hate to admit it, but I had an awesome time, and the monsoons we had are easily shadowed by the great times there this year.
