2011 BCRA BC Tac Rifle Course of Fire

This match is an absolute nightmare to run and organize. There are people gaming, others cheating and even more whining. We bust the balls of the gamers and cheaters and ignore the whiners. In the end it is all worth it. Everyone just shoot the match with the intent with how it is written and we will all get along fine.

It's good to see that we are still building steam and garnering the interests of shooters. The work has been worthwhile.

Uh-huh. Wouldn't that be nice.

There have been some procedural changes to some of the matches.

Please check the website - http://bctacticalrifle.com/www.bctacticalrifle.com/Course_of_Fire_files/2011Course%20of%20Fire-4.pdf

Here is a list of the chanages. I think I got them all.
Match 3: Procedure.
Match 4: Time between exposures.
Match 8: The target will be on edge when it starts to move instead of swinging up like an axe.
Match 5: Target- 2 good guys or more.
Match 12: Clarification on calculating the 10% reduction.
Match 14 Flash 500: Target will be on a stick (not target frame). Repeat with random interval no longer than 15 secs between.
Match 16 Flash 600:Target will be on a stick (not target frame). Repeat with random interval no longer than 15 secs between.
Match 17: Target will be on edge when it starts to move instead of swinging up like an axe.

All good points, thanks. On #4 though, it wouldn't necessarily be 5 rounds through one hole, but even only 2 or 3, which is quite doable at 100m. Remember they would count for 10 points each, which could make or break a standing. My concern is that it makes it too hard for the scorers to do their jobs properly. You know as well as I that when someone proudly shows you their target with one ragged hole you pretty well have to take their word for how many bullets went through that hole...

I'm starting to believe that the configuration of this target is contributing to the problems. Too many rounds into too many unspecified locations with no way to account for what went where. Perhaps the target chosen is not optimum.

I've actually shot this one a few times in practice on the actual target. The smallest dot is a piece of piss to put 5 into from prone so I figure as long as they are all basically there somewhere in a nice tight group the benefit should go to the shooter. The standing and sitting on the other hand are going to hurt a lot of folks who don't shot well positionally.Good place to rack up some points if you are on it!Even the large dot I really had to focus on standing. Not as easy as it looks and I'm pretty good positionally from service rifle. It's gonna be fun!

If I understand the problem right, you can solve the problem with that match by having a "bank" of 5 rows of dot targets per shooter to shoot at.

For example, in standing, shoot the chosen sized dot in the first row of the "bank" (of 5 target rows). Lets say you choose the largest circle to shoot at, then you must then put the second, 3rd 4th and 5th shots in their respective "rows" on the same sized circle. So you'll end up with one shot per target in each row per position. This'll spread out the rounds and make things clearer and easier to score.

The only downside is how much backboard "frontage" you have. Might limit the amount of people you can have per relay, which can set the schedule back (been there done that).

Quit Breathing:Rest rifle on sitting spotters shoulder. 15 exposures of 3 secs, repeat with 5-10 secs between. A miss is a 25% reduction in score.

Can a sling be used as well?

Hi zupermann,
I am not sure if you have read the revised course of fire updated last Friday. This match was one of the updates.
Shooter will start the stage in the standing position. Upon presentation of the target, shooter will fire five (5) shots into any one size of the ten circles. Shooter will then transition to the sitting or kneeling position and fire five (5) shots into any one of the four sizes of remaining circles. Shooter will then transition to the prone position and fire five (5) shots into any one of the three sizes of remaining circles. Shooters rifle MUST be unloaded (empty chamber) during transition between positions with absolute muzzle control.
Between positions, the targets will come down for 30secs to be marked for hits.

After 2 minute exposure, targets come down for 30 seconds. Hits will be marked. Repeat. This is to ensure 5 shots are taken from each position. Shoot your best five. For the really talented shooters, I don't recommend walking your shots around the target. The Butts officer will determine the number of hits on each of 3 targets. I will write it down:). If you shot 5 in each target and you get scored accordingly, that is great.
I believe the people in the butts are reasonable and a very experienced Butts officer. Any challenges on the scoring will go to the match committee at the end of the day after the competitors get their targets. If people play games they play games.

2. Equipment Rules:
2.01. General:
Equipment Rules are the same for both classes:
c. Slings - No limitation on type or style.

Subject to Match Director, I see no limitation on the sling use on Match 5. "The spotter will sit. The shooter will rest their rifle on their spotters shoulder." *Safety tip: Don't rest the barrell against your partners hearing protection:slap: .

Thanks for the clarification:). I didn't see/read the update!

They are bigger than that actually. The smallest is at least 2 inches and the biggest looks bigger than 8 inches.I can try and measure for tommorow if anyone cares. You like his tube gun?;)

Another good tip is if you have a stoppage or a weird sounding round DO NOT try to cram another one into the chamber without checking to see if you have a projectile still in the barrel.I am speaking from experience. All this with the rifle 2 inches away from my ear. :HR:

Saturday Evening BBQ

On Saturday after guns are put away and you wash your hands it's time to eat. Oh yeah.. the target markers need rides to get back to Vedder rd, volunteers drivers required,then... its time to eat. Thanks to Highland Rescue and Safety Ltd it is BBQ time at the Range. To help move things along we are bringing in Smoke and Bones BBQ http://www.smokeandbones.ca/. No waiting for the coals to be ready and this frees up the organizing committee to actually enjoy a cease fire. Thanks JL for your work on this. Make sure you join in. For me it is one of the few times I get to hang out with a bunch of cool guys that aren't firing towards me :).

Who had the idea to have 2 or more good guys in the FIBUA:)? Today we (my nephew and I) sorted and stuck Velcro to no less than 800 "BAD guys intermingled with two or more GOOD guys". I think this will be a fun one. With the choice of the g-g/b-g, and depending on how we are doing in the butts, we will try to make this one interesting for your spotter:bangHead: :welcome: .

Your Assistance is Requested

As in past years, our Target Markers will need rides to and from the range. The 12 or so markers are arriving at Fred's Bait &Tackle on Vedder Road in the morning.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday the pick up time for the Markers will be 7:50 am. Can you swing by on your way up and pick up some of the markers?

Please note shooters are to be ready at the line at 0900.
This is a change from the registration form as per the Match Director.

Please let us know if you can P/U some of the kids/markers on your way to the range. The markers are a vital part of the shoot and we can not do it with out them. We cannot start until the Markers are at the range. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
Assistance will also be required to drop them off at the end of the day.
