Is anyone else excited to see what 100 years of the 1911 is going to give us in 2011?

I personally have been holding off purchasing a 1911 until I get a sense of what anniversary models will be available for 2011.

Unless Im mistaken the "1911" was actually built before that sometime around 1907-1910. The name 1911 actually comes from when the gun first entered Service by the US Military.

So technically it's 100th birthday was from 2007-2010

We will most likely see a "100 years of service" edition from Colt. I predict it will be a standard 1911 (not 1911A1) and will have some real nice engravings on it, facy box, and will probably have "100 Years of service 1911-2011" engraved on the side. Chances are Production will also be limited to 100 units, and each will be marked "1 of 100".

Yes but as it has been known as a 1911 for many years I would think that a commemorative would be in order.

Browning has made several commemorative Hi-Powers this year for its 75th anniversary.

While I like the white grips, I think some medallions inset into your blackwood or rosewood grips that come with the M1911 knives would look very classy, too.
