2011 IWI Tavor Pre Order Thread - Can Am

I've owned two Tavor's and they feel so right in your hands. They are actually seducing to play with. But after shooting high end AR's for so long I have a hard time describing the Tavor as accurate. If I could consistently shoot 1 MOA with one I'd be a happy camper, but despite a variety of different ammo attempts, benching it, working with the trigger, the best I can consistently shoot is 2-3 MOA. If I can't hit a gopher with it at 100 yds, then its a range gun in .223. That's why I stick with AR's.

I'm in a dilemna right now between the Tavor and the XCR. Non-res is the way to go for me cause the closest range is a 1 hour ride from home. I always wanted a Tavor but can't convince myself to throw almost 4 grand on a rifle that I never handled and never even seen in real. I could ask an Australian here (I'm in Kandahar too) if I could hold his AUG to see if I like the feeling of a bullpup but that's the closest that I will get to the feeling of a Tavor without buying one. The lack of accessories for the Tavor is also a turn-off for me. On the other hand, the XCR doesn't have as much "cool factor" as the Tavor but is a grand cheaper and will take most AR-15 accessories (grips,stocks...). Right now, I am leaning towards the XCR but I'm still not sure yet. Anyway, I have until july to make my decision :HR:.

North Sylva is bringing in the Tavor with the factory short rail and flip up iron sights, retail is around $2700 for one of them. Personally, I'd go with the Tavor over the XCR. I've handled and fired both, and the Tavor wins hands down IMO. The only thing the XCR has going for it is the "AR feel", but the Tavor is better designed, more rugged, nicer pointing, etc.

When i was down in Australia i had the chance of shooting 200 rounds with one owned by a friend, this Tavor-21 is out of this world for realibility and accuracy, i was impress, just preorder one this week from Canammo... JP.

I was under the impression semis in Australia were VERY unubtanium, especially newer ones??

I would go with the XCR the whole way. I have one and I've played with plenty of tavors while considering to buy. I think that most people want a fire arm that shoots accurately and consistently. The XCR does a decent job, it is no custom AR but.... the tavor is very difficult to shoot well, the trigger and the funky ergonomics don't work that well for a 6'2 225lb guy. I've never had a failure to eject or a failure to fire on my XCR and I've probably got 8 or 9 thousand rounds through it. In 7x39 it is a awesome gun, probably the most fun I've fired in a long time. the 6.8 is expensive to shoot but the 7x39 is a riot.

cheers,

I was thinking the exact same thing. I know you can own some handguns, but the process is even more draconian and expensive than it is here. Clarify, please?
