So, its about that time of year to start gearing up for the big game draws, which brings me to my story. The 2011 hunting and trapping guide isn't available online yet... kind of odd... it is the end of April. An email to the general Sask Environment contact gets me the following response:

"It won't be available until August, but the dates are all the same"

What the hell?

Remember that we now have fixed opening dates for big game seasons. I suppose they meant the entry deadlines for the Big Game Draw are also fixed.

A visit to the Saskatoon office would probably get more useful information than an e-mail to the Ministry's general enquiry address.

How are we supposed to know the numbers of tags being issued per zone? Or if they are dumb enough to consider zone 9 a chronic waste zone for mule deer again? Or whether we enter for zone "6" and not "6A" like a few years back we won't be getting antlerless only elk tags?! What a complete and utter joke..

Azazle I could not have said it better!! If I want to apply for my super A mule deer draw I would love to know what zones the government braintrust have declared CWD!!! This tag is important and I would like to know. Man is it frustrating!!!!

So far, you have to guess. Last year I think it was late and the paper edition of the guide was in short supply. And here we go again. Something is wrong in that ministry.

Last year the guide was available online so you could at least review options before applying to the big game draw....

The simplest solution would be to go to last years guide and use the information provided, or phone the CO's and see if there are any changes to the specific zones you are intersted in. Pretty sure there is a memo or two floating around regarding CW and zones.
