This years deer hunt was a little different as one of my hunting friends hosted two americans on an Albertan whitetail hunt they have always wanted to do. Both guys were fine fellows and a pleasure to share camp with. the first couple days a bunch of deer were spotted, none too big.
My hunting companion, my cousin , had only a couple days to hunt, he took this nice whitetail around noon on his second day. He was very pleased! 7mm rem mag, sako finnbear rifle
The first american got his deer a couple days later, wonderful buck with a kicker tine. It will be going in his trophy room! 300 ultra mag, model 70
The second american, my hunting friends brother, got this big heavy beamed hog the next day. He was so pleased. 270 winchester
I decided to take a buck as I had not been home in two weeks, with work and the hunt. Walked into an area and blew my grunt a bit, a doe came out on the edge of a cut that I worked in last winter, I set my sticks up and sure enough a buck came out behind her. I waited until he was a bit in the open and sent a 100 gr interlock out of my 25/06 his way. One shot, he dropped. I hit a bit high and spined him, he died within seconds. the doe could not figure out why he was not still following her so she went back to check it out. She stood there for about ten minutes. This buck is nowhere near my biggest, one brow tine was broken off and the other one is TEN inches long, wish the rest of his rack was like his brow tine!
all in all a very memorable hunt in the calling lake area.
