2012 Manitoba hunting regulations are out

Deer numbers in the zone I hunt (Whiteshell) were way down. Every morning and evening I'd hear wolves howling on the ridges. I don't think Metis hunting is as big an issue in the east as the cards aren't recognized in that area. Deer tags were up with a 2nd tag, and seasons were extended by weeks. Wolf predation and overharvest were the main issues, and not just in the past year. Conservation is still issueing a 2nd tag this year even though the herd is devastated. Their reasoning is to bring back moose to the area. Will never happen in a 100 years, deer will still be around with brainworm and the native harvest won't stop. Human greed and modern technology are spelling the end for our wildlife. I've been fortunate enough to hunt through the glory years, now I guess I'll be experiencing some tough times as well.

Agreed, with safe havens in the bird refuge and Falcon and West Hawk areas there will always be enough deer around to conflict with resurecting the moose population.

Even if the moose numbers did come back in this part of the province, it wouldn't take long for the word to get out and the numbers to go back down.
Look what's happening in certain parts of western Manitoba.
It's a free for all on moose.
