2012 Team Hoser 3-Gun Challenge

Scores are up>>>> HERE

Congratulations to division winners and a special 'atta boy to Paul S for placing 1st overall regardless of division...

Thanks again to Team Hoser, Guelph R&G, and Hamitlon Tactical for great day! And congrats to Paul S! Anyone have video of him shooting cause I would love to see it! 44.1 seconds on stage 4 blows my mind!

Ideally, you need to know where your rifle hits from 10 yards to 300
I can guarantee that if we had to shoot clays at 10 yards with the rifle, quite a few people would be missing like crazy because they aren't familiar with their bullet's flight path.
Great shooting Paul and thanks for the tips.

I have been practicing 100, 200, and 300 yards. oopps
Patterened my shotgun from 5 to 25 yards, not sure why I did not think of my rifle.

Steel messes me up too. Not sure where to aim, with handgun and rifle.

Downloaded some pepper popper targets to play with. I here the Zombies are coming in Sept. Got to be ready for the Zombies.
Again thanks to Team Hoser, great match.

My major problem was the damned follower on my 870 kept binding up at random times while I was reloading. I ordered a new no-jam follower from S&J today, hopefully it will cure it.

I'm going to assume you have a mag extension on your 870.
I'm not an expert on that platform, but have heard that there is a dimple towards the end of the stock mag tube that can cause followers to hang up.

google 870 dimple and maybe that will help you out?

Yep, 870 Tactical with factory mag extension. The improved follower supposedly gets around the problem you mention.

My biggest time killer was shotgun reloading... I'm not slow, just not fast enough. My open choke and birdshot wasn't enough to knock down the Texas tree too.

Next time I will come prepared! I look forward to competing with you at next event.

I am a big proponent of using #6 shot or #4's for all steel targets....save the 7 1/2's and #8's for clay targets or steel that is real close...like 10 yards close. I feel the bigger shot, retains more energy to positively put steel down, even with off centre hits. Chokes are also extremely important for tailoring your patterns for specific stages....mixed in no-shoots...heavy steel....hoser stages etc..

Or you could use a turkey choke like I did, those plates never saw it coming! LOL

Lol....definitely not recommend! PLus reset is a ##### because the plates are 20 feet away from the stands :p

Shot sizes and chokes = flexibility, that's essential for shotgun IMO.

Took my a while to accept the #6 shot size argument as I always used 7.5 and 8s. The benefits are pretty clear though.

Sorry I couldn't make this, as it turns out I didn't do any shooting that weekend.

My wife *reminded* me that I have a long standing traditional of taking my father in law golfing on the saturday of fathers day weekend.

Sorry to hear about your domestic woes Onagoth, but as all real men know the secret to a happy life is divorce and then shooting with your buddies. Just a life lesson you have to learn if you have the sickness lol.
