2012 Whitetail, Lets see yours

Its best not to apply your own criteria of what a "good buck" is to other hunters. Who's to say whether one hunter's 150 made him any happier than the next guy's fork-horn? Did shooting or holding out for a bigger buck make one a better hunter or a better person? Does not careing about antlers at all made one a more pure hunter?

For what's it's worth, I like a big set of horns as much as anyone. Setting my standard where I do can be loosely translated as "Doing what I want". Letting a smaller buck go isn't a hard thing to do if you didn't want it in the first place, but that doesn't mean that it wouldn't made someone else's decade.

I have to agree with you. I don't set my standars as high as yours, but if by the end I don't see or shoot 140 +, I'll just shoot a doe. I don't get why these city hunters come out and shoot a spiker buck. This is why there are so few mature bucks in my area left. I don't always shoot the biggest buck, but if I needed meat that bad, I'm sure I could afford to buy something in its place. And not all bucks will be bigger then next year, 3 out of the 4 I got on my wall had gone down hill. Have sheds from them from years before. But I guess each to his own n your hunting standards.

I have no problem with other hunters shooting small bucks where I hunt. First of all, I rarely see hunters where I hunt, therefore; hunting pressure is almost nil. Secondly, not all hunters are trophy hunters and I can see them wanting any buck to fill the freezer..............a doe would be a better choice for table fair. This year in Saskatchewan I saw many bucks but did not fill my tag, in fact one did reach my minimum of 160 B&C, but decided to pass on him. Hopefully next year he will be bigger.....my way of managing whitetails.

I read alot about the whole "first minute of season" or similar, an i think to myself... why?

its the first buck you'v seen of a potential 2week + season in some areas. much longer in others.

Each persons reasons must differ...time allowence maybe? buck tag when meats the trophy etc..
I would like to hunt around an around again until i was satisfied he was the the bigger Deer in the hubt area i had acces to.

Some cracker Deer in this thread, Thanks for Sharing!!!

The answer to your question "why" is that I really don't like deer hunting! OK, so that's not quite true - I DO enjoy myself when I'm deer hunting, but I'm a pheasant hunting ADDICT, and the bird season opens a few days after the archery deer season. My ideal situation is to get a small-medium sized deer hanging in the butcher's walk-in ASAP and be ready to hit the pheasant covers as soon as it's legal to do so. Last year I didn't manage to get it "over with" in the first few days, and when I was deer hunting later in the season all I could think about was the dog and my over-under sitting at home while the pheasant season ticked past!

Has anyone heard about a big whitetail taken just South of Saskatoon? Saw pictures of him Friday night. He's supposed to count 2" bigger than the Hanson buck.
The fella that showed me the pictures is a very avid hunter, not prone to BS (for a hunter that is LOL)

Great bucks everyone. I do not have a photbucket account so you will have to check out my Avatar for my Sask buck from this year, My Alberta whitetail was jsut a bit smaller. A great year for me.

Yes I doagree wih you on that. But our area is gettijng over hunted by idiots from the city who do not have permission from any land owners. I consider it ethics to allow an anikmal t become mature. I to passed on bigger bucks that miine but it was luck that I missed. Now hopefully he will be bigger next year. Nothing one can do to what other hunters shoot, but would be nice to see more deer thgat are mature that just fork horns

I had heard the same story, but this reliable resource said it was next to Duck lake. Kind of different directions, some one said they had pictures that were txt messaged to them.
Any one else see these?

First Manitoba buck, I am pretty happy with it.

These two pretty much filled up the back of my X-Terra.

Four of us went out the first day and Tyler went home with his first buck (a fat fork-horn). The wife had a chance on the way out but it didn't work out.
Two of us went back and on day three Kevin connected with the big one on the drivers side (his first deer!!!) and about two hours later I had mine down.
A friend of ours hunted hard for 10 days and finally connected with a doe, I think he may be the happiest of the bunch of us...

Stormtrooper1015, is that a Tavor you were using?

Not a Tavor this year... I have used the Tavor for several hunting trips, but for the last two seasons I have been using a Kel-Tec RFB. It performed very well, and it's compact size make it a perfect gun for maneuvering through the woods.
