Anyone know if work will be mandatory for this match? (I do know it was required before)
Are there plans to post squad/work schedule?

Hi Rog,

Thanks for monitoring this web site! Tell this guy there will be a work schedule and compliance is mandatory. The schedule will be the mirror image of the shooting squad schedule when it comes out.

DVC,

Chris

Will we have access to the schedule online somewhere before we arrive or will you give it only when we get there ?

I carpool with someone who shoots in a different division than mine, so knowing in advance can ease the planning

Don't know what you meant by mirror of squads, but I really hope you won't expect people shooting at the afternoon squads to work at the morning...

why wouldn't people work in the morning and shoot in the afternoon? That's pretty normal

I'm more interested to see if I can shoot / help on the same squad than the people I carpool with. I don't mind working AM shooting PM, that's what we always do, as you said.

For most competitors it won't make much difference, but I am pretty sure you'll perform better if you haven't run around on your foot for the half day before you shoot. Especially at the Nationals match.

Done it before, it's the same for everyone dude. Unless they've got a matrix that allows for one day off of work for everyone, which I don't know, then the chances are pretty good people will be working before shooting. It shouldn't matter what level of shooter you are for them to make the work order. All shooters should be treated the same.

Actually, that would not work because if everyone worked before they shot who would they be working for in the morning? If I am correct as Nationals were last year. Work day is separate from shooting day. its only fair to all the shooters. What advantage if you shot first in the morning and worked in the afternoon vs working in the morning and then shooting. I certainly would not like to be the guy working all morning and then having to shoot tired.

as usual, theres no tone here so its easy to take this comment the wrong way - so correct me if I am wrong but what you mean is "some don't mind it and its their business but it makes sense to not be tired before a physically taxing competition should you choose so, and this choice should rest with the competitor"

thats awesome, and more power to you but surely you would not want to arbitrarily impose this on others should they prefer to be mentally and physically rested for a major competition. this years nationals are running the same amount of days as last years - if they can separate work days from shooting days i fail to see why that will not be possible this year.

exactly, how do you decide who gets to shoot fresh and who gets to shoot tired? i get it, not all of us are stars and most of us have no illusions of grandeur - however that being said, don't we all deserve an equal shot?

If everyone shoots 1 AM and 1 PM and has to work 2 x ½-day, they can work the PM when they shoot AM and work AM on the day they don't shoot... not that complicated

Are we working two 1/2 days this year? Last few years everyone, besides dedicated ROs, were working one 1/2 day only (if at all).

Work shifts and competitors ROing other competitors is the number 1 and 2 reason I just have zero interest in shooting anymore Canadian Nationals. It's a really quick way to make what should be the premiere match of the year in Canada into what amounts to a club match with a high round count. Surely we should be able to do better. We have more than enough qualified officials to run dedicated RO, CRO and scorekeeper a for each bay. And we shoot countless matches in the states that are much larger with professional shooters and everyone works (patches/sets steel) on their squad while they shoot. And woe is to the person who thinks they can be on the Super Squad and not patch. If the top shooters on the planet are patching, you'd better be patching too.

Yep and I've had the privilege of shooting with some of those people and It' be been a battle to patch a target. Not because the don't patch, it that they also patch very fast, if your not moving when the all clear is given you be walking back with all your patches looking a little silly.

i guess i am the odd man out because i prefer to work separately and shoot separately not combine the two. The only advantage to the USPSA way of doing things is that you can shoot and scoot.

there are certain elements of the "way" we do thing up here at our national that drive me nuts, but so long as all shooters are expected to perform under the same work conditions, it should be a non issue.
If it can be worked that you never have to work in the morning when shooting in the afternoon. Cool, if not, suck it and volunteer to run the next one. Being able to shoot when run down, bring yourself back up to be in the game is the sign of a good shooter.
