2013 norinco headspace at 1.636?!

I had my headspace checked at corlanes when I had a brake installed. The smith there said my chamber was at 1.636. I understand most norcs ar quite a bit more than that. obviously this is good. But I wonder if I misunderstood or if he measured it with a SAAMMI gage instead of NATO. He did say it is totally safe to feed it .308 as long as it's not a really heavy load.

has anyone else heard of a norc with headspace like this straight out of the box?

yes.. and it did not stay that way, within 200 rounds it was 12 thou over Field and cases were starting to separate at both the head and a third down the body from the neck.

Your headspace is still within SAAMI limits: 1.640" is field reject. If you reload, you can full-length resize your brass, but watch out for incipient head separations.

SAAMI .308 and 7.62 NATO headspace length are both defined as the distance from the bolt face to the point where the shoulder is .400" in diameter.
