Are there any left to be found? Any idea where I can find 2?

My wife and sister-in-law both shot their first deer this fall. My sister-in-law took a beautiful nearly perfectly symmetrical 8 point during the rifle hunt and my wife took a huge 9 point during the late season bow hunt. I'm making plaques for their European mounts and am looking for crests to add to them.

I've called a couple hide depots and they didn't have any, which wasn't surprising since the depot we dropped the hides at didn't have them then either.

If you google "hats for hides" I believe they still have a list there showing all the depots in Ontario.

That program slid seriously downhill. Originally there were separate hats/crests for deer, bear, moose, etc. Then it switched to the generic "successful big game hunter" crested hat. Then it changed to an unattached crest, accompanied by a hat worth about 25 cents. The last year that I needed an Ontario crest, I had to drive all the way to Peterborough from Port Perry...nobody any closer than that.

Good luck...a set of antlers, or maybe a Euro-skull, mounted on a plaque with maybe a photo and/or an engraved brass tag will make a nice memento of the hunt for your ladies.

Thanks for the info guys. One of the guys in our club donated one set of patches for me, now I just need a second.

I am building plaques for them that will hold the European mounts and the rifle casing of my sister in laws and the arrow shaft of my wifes. I've got the designs made, now just waiting for it to warm up enough for me to get out into my wood shop to make up some mock ups. They've both picked out the wood they want and I have it on order. They both chose exotics so I had to order it in, talk about a pricey plaque but I guess they're worth it!

Sounds like you're going to do it up right. The arrow and shell casing will be a nice touch. Nothing calls for commemoration more than a hunter's first deer.

Hopefully you'll post some pics of the finished product.
