Three of us from Ottawa headed out to PEI for the 2014 NSSA Atlantic Skeet Championships at the Charlottetown Trap and Skeet Club. This shoot was run as a satellite shoot of the Zone 8 shoot that I'm sure bmcrae will be posting final scores soon.
I integrated the shoot into a family vacation, booking a cottage on the beach in Cavendish on the north shore of PEI for eight nights and commuting the 45 minutes back and forth to the club on the Saturday and Sunday. The other two guys stayed in Charlottetown.
What a great time. Derrick Egan put on a great shoot along with the rest of the volunteers at the the club. The atmosphere at the shoot was refreshing, good people having a good time with plenty of great scores spread around. Refs were excellent and the facility was looking great with an excellent background. The targets were terrific even with a bit of a wind gusting around as a result of a tropical storm that had passed by a couple of days before the shoot. The machines were tuned up, I can only remember one broken target on our squad (1600 targets).
Steve Loveday from Ottawa ended up HOA, HAA and 20 gauge champ. That puts him this year as the Canadian Open HOA Champ, Ontario Open HOA champ and the Atlantic HOA champ. Not a bad start to the year.
Apparently it is the plan to hold the Atlantics in PEI as a satellite of the Zone 8 for the next couple of years, so I hope to see more shooters west of NB to put this shoot on their schedule. It traditionally has been the weekend after the Ontario August long weekend.
Again thanks to Dustin Jewell/Derrick Egan and the Charlottetown Trap and Skeet Club
