2014 edmonton area service rifle shoots

The qualifier match will be shot regularly throughout the season. If necessary we will use similar matches to classify shooters as other orgs do.

Hey Bill, Tom here. I'll be there tomorrow for sure. I'm going to bring my nephew and cousin. I just threw an AR together with an optic. Shame to leave the Toblerone at home ... As long as we can do some sighters, we shall have fun! Bryon ( my nephew ) is really looking forward to earning his hat and getting into our sport!

Well, I think I can feel my finger tips now. Thanks for a great day Bill, Dave, Dan, Ben, and everyone else that I don't know on a first name basis. Bryon had a blast and loves his new hat and patches. I had to listen to him for 2 hrs on the drive home talk about practicing all the things Dave showed him. Hope it's warmer next time!
Tom.

Thanks Tom. I promise better weather in June. Service rifle is alive a living in Edmonton if 15 people turn out in -10 weather with winds gusting from 20-30 km at 11:00.

A HUGE THANK YOU to Dave, Bill, Dan and all others who put this together!

This past weekend was an opportunity for everyone to get on paper at 100 and 200 yds, before shooting each match.

Shooters can arrive with their brand new rifles in hand, and walk away with a smile on their face and a new found confidence in their eyes.

As stated at the shoot- "It's about learning what YOU can do with YOUR rifle."

You can expect to get assistance adjusting until your rounds are landing right where you want them to.

You will get demonstrations and coaching from experienced shooters, including Dave. Dave is quite simply a legendary service rifle coach.

You will learn. You will have fun.

Ben

^it's alright. I googled figure 12's and saw what they looked like. I have a friend who has some black colored ones with white scoring rings. They looks like they are about22" high.
You said that the sighter targets are white. Would the targets used for score the black ones as above?
Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions.

mhenn 1965 we use figure 12s with varying sized bulls and v-bulls depending on position and range. V-Bulls are 1/2 the size of the bull. The white sighters are used so that we can see a .22 hole at 200 yds. From an accuracy perspective think of the bull being a 3 moa circle centered on the chin of the 22x 18" target for deliberate (prone) I'll put together a series of photos for info.

AAR for the CHAS Service match today: 30 shooters on a chilly but beautifully sunny and calm day. Mostly ARs on the line with an M14, SKS, a couple of Tavors, and even an Enfield from what I saw (I missed the first relay)

Some good scores again, and on a personal note, I improved my score a great deal, despite having a borked scope :p

I agree it was a good day out at the CHAS match. It was a good way to confirm my zero at 200m and 300m and do some positional practice.

The match started at 1200hrs and was largely completed by 1500hrs if I am remembering right. The 30 shooters were divided up into four relays. The fourth relay had enough empty slots that a few shooters that wanted too were able to shoot again (just for practice).
Total rounds fired during the course of fire was 40. 80rnds if like me you let through the course of fire twice.

It was good fun and definitely a good way to ensure your zero and fundamentals are down.

I have no idea how to upload pictures onto here or I'd post it for you.

Allow me to assist in this regard...:)

For mhenn1965's' benefit (please clarify/update me if needed), I would think that the targets used would be either of these. The black ones were used at the time I was involved in SR locally, and were great for those using iron sights (6 oclock hold) as they really contrasted well with the backboards. Now that most everyone is using optics, perhaps the targets on the right (figure 12's) are being used now(?).

Regardless, the dimensions are the same--18" wide and 22" tall with 6" and 12" rings. I suppose you can "scribe" a 3" V-bull with a math set compass to practice on, and use the chin of the figure 12 as an aimpoint.....

Yes, thanks buddy! We used the one on the right for score. The one on the left was the same shape, but white. We used them for sighting in as the spotters could easily see your bullet holes.
