2014 US Nationals

Heard on the line in Phoenix, Dan talking to Derek Rogers:
You still trying those 215 grainers?
Yeah it's like that really pretty girlfriend you just don't get along with. You just want to give it one more try before you give up..

interesting comment...if he was using them this past week he finished 1st overall... not sure the 215's put him in first as last year he won the us nationals and he was shooting the 200's if i recall correctly.

I have know idea what bullet he was using it was just a comment I liked. They were just having a discussion. I will find out and let you know tomorrow.

Gord has been having trouble with the extreme heat we have been shooting in and had to stay home for a couple of days. He is ok apparently and will be shooting tomorrow.

Reluctantly I had to withdraw from the National Matches for health issues (not the heat as it really felt good on these old bones)
I left to come down here a little ill , hoping things would improve. It didn't .Was hoping to make a come back and shoot the next day ,but could not.

At least I got to finish the Regionals

6mmbr has some of the results. For FTR, Derek Rodgers is using 200 grain bullets, Jim Crofts isn't saying (he won FTR). FTR scores weren't that far behind the F-Open scores. This was the clash of the heavies in FTR.

JC is shooting the 200 over Varget as well. If i would be shooting string, i would also use the 200 as it can be shot faster then the 215 due to recoil management and are WAY more accurate than the 215. I'm not talking "bullet design" but shooter hability to "generate" accuracy.

Back in Saskatoon again, man that's a long drive home. 2763 km or 1713 milrs, one way! I left Phoenix Sunday at 9 am, drove by Monument Valley near Four Corners, then to Denver to get a room, but the four I checked were all sold out so I hopped on the freeway again and drove up to Cheyenne WY, got 3 hrs sleep and woke up to snow everywhere and it was really coming down, so I left right away before they closed the freeway. Made it home around 10 pm Monday.

I stayed at Gerry W's place with Jim W. Jim and I felt funny since Gerry was still in Canada cutting down a corn crop.

Jimmy and Glen both shoot really good and I was very happy for both of them.

It was too bad Gord could not attend all days, but the days he was there, he shined!

The one of my car... well Friday morning Jim and I were heading to the range up I-17, just about to enter the US 74 Carefree Highway and BANG... off goes the side air bags. Jim got slapped pretty good by the leather seat side air bag, red strip down his side... that will probably be purple by now. Temp then was around 65 F, road smooth and nothing hit us. That will probably total off my car!! Not happy about that after just putting just under $2200 in repairs this year and just over $7000 in 2013!

The pic of the old powder, I picked this up from an old friend in Helena on the way down, looking for powder, note the price, just over $5 for a pound of H4831 in the old days! Left it at Gerry's on this TV stand, hope his wife does not toss it out!

Here are some results over the many days... including a few from the AZ Regional held a few days before the Nationals, and some pics from the awards supper. Trying to get some FTR and FOpen results up for those that wanted to see them.

Shot 3 relays with James at Ottawa Nationals he was using 185gr Bergers, same wind drift as the 223 & 90gr Bergers, he is a fine gentleman, he uses a spotting scope and told me some of advantages, I will be using one next season

Desert Sharpshooters have now posted detailed results for Arizona Long Rang Regionals and US Nationals at
http://www.desertsharpshooters.com/results

Last batch of photos I was hoping to share....didn't turn out. Guess I should leave photo taking to others:bangHead:.
Great range to experience. Wish I could make the SW Bergers.....Good luck to those that are.

So VW Canada is covering the cost to repair my Jetta since the air bags deployed for no reason! Great company support IMO since it is a 2002 and has over 330,000 km on her when this happened back on Nov 1st 2014, last day of the US Nationals matches.
