2015 Shed Thread

Went cruising this evening around the Hines Creek area (hour and a half north of Grande Prairie). Saw about 30-40 mule deer, 5 or so still wearing antlers. All small bucks, so don't know if the larger racks would have fallen already.

Is it too early for sheds in Eastern Ontario? I was out for a walk at my hunting place yesterday, and didn't see anything. Lots of traks, and lots of poop, but not a trace of any sheds at all. What am I doing wrong?

The last buck I saw with antlers in northeastern Ontario was the middle of January. I'm very confident the bucks have all dropped their antlers by now. Just need to wait for the snow to start disappearing before I can get out shed hunting.

Ya still waiting for a bit more snow to melt in the bush here in S. Ont. I know some guys down in the banana belt (Windsor area) where the snow is gone and they are having good success. Was hoping to get out this past week but these cold temps are holding on and another weekend of minus zero in the forecast is not helping. Next week is looking better, one or two good rains and it will be go time!

I was out for an hour's walk this morning, saw a few muley bucks still wearing both sides and one that was half done so I need to give them a little time. Feel like lassoing them and doing a little force-shedding

I found only 6 sheds so far and about 30 km of walking!!
All good ones except for one!
I'm not good with computers and haven't had any luck posting pictures... Lets see what the more computer savy nutters have found

A sad weekend for shed hunting, found 5 dead bucks...
All within 50-150 yards from the road,
One that's at least 2 years old and one of the most wild looking bucks I've seen in my area yet
Also found 2 old antlers
I'll go out again tomorrow!
What a great hobbie shed hunting can be and a good way to go out and do something without spending any money!!

Found my first one of 2015 so far, not a monster but a nice find for this area. The snow is finally starting to melt making it easier to find these things. Hitting the double digits on the plus side of freezing was a good incentive to stretch my legs today.

Biggest Muley I'd ever seen was just outside Hines Creek... And he was promptly followed by an even bigger buck. Just unreal in that area for size.
