Posted on behalf of the BWSA Precision Rifle Division Match Director

Here it is folks, the 2016 Schedule. Pencil in the dates now!
Before proceeding into the 2016 season, I’d like to take a second and reflect on the 2015 season and predict how things will progress in the future.
Since taking over the division in November of 2014, BWSA went from hosting long range matches that struggled to draw more than a few participants to hosting precision rifle matches that regularly draw upwards of 15 – 20 shooters. We’d like to continue to see that number grow! Invite your family and friends to join us in 2016. Talk about us on social media - tag yourself and share our pictures – spread the word!!
2015 held a number of interesting and challenging shooting events. 2016 promises more. We are adding new events to the mix. In May, BWSA is hosting a full day Designated Marksman Match. This match is designed to bridge the gap between a true precision rifle match and a 3-gun style event. Accordingly, more shooters should be equipped to participate! Also, BWSA is also hosting two Precision Rimfire Challenges. Has anyone shot a 22lr out to 225yds at something the size of an egg? You will have your chance. Dust off those old 10/22’s and find your choice of match ammo…these are going to be interesting.
We will also continue to have some of our club favorites: the Movers Match, Open Steel Shoots, and the Precision Rifle Championship Match. Stages are going to get more complex and quicker. Positional shooting is going to be key in 2016. I would recommend having a tripod, knowing how to build shooting supports, and getting comfortable shooting off barricades and different props.
As the Precision Rifle Division grows, I would like to emphasize, this is not my division or BWSA’s division - it is our division. What keeps people coming back is the club, its members, and the hospitality of fellow shooters. Please consider becoming more involved with the Club and the Precision Rifle Division. BWSA will be hosting another Range Safety Officer training class in January or February. Consider attending. RSO’s are a tremendous help at matches and they allow us to run more stages consecutively. Also, unique to our sport is the need for spotters. If you have a spotting scope and tripod, feel free to bring them to matches so you can assist other shooters on the line. Lastly, if you would like to practice a particular skill set or have an idea for a stage design; please pass your comments along. We appreciate shooter feedback.
2015 was a great shooting season, 2016 will be even better.
Happy Holidays,
BWSA Precision Rifle Division Match Director
All,
MTC recently published their calendar for the year and the Guardian match was scheduled for the same day as our Precision Rifle Championship Match.
By popular requests, in order to avoid the conflict, we have moved the Championship Match to September 11, 2016. More daylight, more stages! An updated schedule will be posted.
Cheers!
