2016 CDTSA Multigun Matches **critical UPDATE Post 251 ** SEPT Match

A little constructive criticism, I did have a great time don't get me wrong.

Registration should be at 8AM and first shots at 9AM. I was on the last squad shooting and we were there pretty late for a Sunday.
If that's not possible maybe move the shoots to Saturday, So you have a day off before the work week begins.

All in all it was a great time. Thanks to all that helped organize the event.

Hindsight's 20/20
First match ever being run out of that facility. Future matches will have the stages a bit more balanced as the whole team learns how we can flow everything through there.
(I didn't get home till 930pm, still had to off load and Clockwrkz was there even later)

As for AirCavs missing stage.
Here is my video. First stage was the one AirCav missed recording, second stage was dragging the bag that he only recorded half of. I missed recording the stage with the coach gun
(I tossed it together fairly quick to give me a break on editing. Also I forgot my normal camera mount so I had to rig something on the fly so the angles are not the best. GO EASY on me)

Looks like A good time. Work won't be getting in the way of me attending the next one.

The one issue I see and have experienced with stages that use props such as BUGs, and pull bags, etc. Is if the gun or prop goes down mid-way through a match, you then either face delays or have to toss the stage.
Another thing with props, is sometimes the successful manipulation of the prop heavily influences the results or can even outweigh the shooting aspect of the stage.

And it did a bit, I know the golf ball launcher caused some people issues. The BUT is. Its all fun and games. Almost every time that ball launched everyone laughed cause the accuracy wasn't measured in MOA... it was in angle and the angle spread was about 90 degrees :)

Which is why it is mind blowing that Nova hit the target.

Yup... The golf ball launcher malfunctions (or my lack of practice with loading finicky blanks in an AR) almost doubled my stage time - DOH!

A possible suggestion for next time... If the final gun is not for accuracy, record the time just prior and let them shoot the last one as a "fun gun" off the clock. Or... tell me to STFU and be a man. :)

As I said in a previous post. Great match and thanks for all of the hard work!

Time should have stopped for that. Again one of those hindsight things. Think we are all aware if that one. But we got more blanks and more golf balls the thankS to proline shooters. Anyone have any ideas on what we can do with the rest? :) pm me if you have any ideas

Could you stuff some tissue paper or some biodegradable paper to wad the golf ball? That may increase the accuracy, from what I saw if the ball wasn't seated back when fired it got a killer front spin. I think launching the golf ball was neat surprise, though the blanks are finicky to load. But it's all in good fun. The speed and impact at 200yards is impressive, I would imagine you can't go much shorter than that due to it having a chance to bounce back. Maybe fire it at some bowling pins 100yards down the range before advancing?

Maybe have it as a side event to raise funds - 20$ for 3 balls and the shooter has a sudo-green and pin to shoot at. Closest to the hole wins a prize from a sponsor, and the club raises funds for more props or steel or a charity.
As a side event, it can keep people entertained if there is a backlog of shooters waiting for a stage, at lunch, etc.

Hey All,

Scores have been emailed out to everyone on the mailing list.

If you signed up but didn't get the email it is most likely because I could not read your chicken scratch hand writing and the email got rejected. (Shoot me a PM and I will re-add and submit)

Congrats to those that finished on the podium in each class!

It was a fantastic match! I am glad to see the larger turn out. A lot of effort went into the planning of this match and it is very encouraging to see it pay off with happy feed back. Now its time to start think about the next one. Here is some video footage of me shooting. Unfortunately I forgot to turn on my camera for Carl Grimes run and only managed to turn it on for the rifle shooting on dragging your parashoot. After dragging that punching bag I had a harder time getting my shoots off when I try to stop my breathing but my body doesn't let me. I make some funny noises when doing my 200m shoots.

Awesome vid! Odsixer shot a video of me shooting the Straight up the middle stage. I had two misses/failure to knock-down one target, so to pick up a miss I usually say it's a second. So, a mag-fed shotgun saves in between 12 and 13 seconds for 10 shots over a sg with a mag tube. Well, it does over my loading method anyway.

You had a solid run. The mag fed can save some time if it is working but your SG reloading looks smooth and fast. Congratulations on taking Production division! Looks like you had the best time on dragging your parashoot too. That was tough to drag that bag then try and do some long distance rifle shoots. Must have been no problem for a fireman such as yourself.

Naw, there was no video but I was probably making 'funny' sounds too!

Looks like a great event. Thank you for sharing but I have to say those shooting bays are strange. I have never seen such skinny bays before.

Just a suggestion for staged guns in the future, a lot of times at bigger matches if there is a staged gun it will be shot at the beginning of the stage off the clock, and then the timer goes when you complete that portion.

This way delays due to malfunctions don't cause a total stage reshoot or massive time impact, making the stage score/time still reflective of the shooter, not the prop.

That being said, staged guns/fun items like a golf ball launcher are often highlights of a match for many people :D

One could argue that that the unpredictable stage guns make the shooter demonstrate there problem solving skills under stress in a competitive matter..... Shooters that experienced a FTF with the golf ball launcher from the mag, and kept trying to load from the mag... lost lots of time. Shooters that experienced the FTF and realized it was mag related, and breach loaded the gun saved time.

I set up my own little 3 gun match for myself and friends to practice for this tournament, and at the end of the course of fire, I had a staged flintlock rifle that the shooter had to make a 50yrd torso shot with. It was a novelty, but occasionally the flintlock would fail to discharge, costing the shooter huge amounts of time. To combat this, we made the flintlock at the end an optional gamble in which the shooter could take. If he opted out, his time stopped. If he risked taking the shot with the flintlock and landed a hit, he would receive a reduced time prize.

REVIVING the loaded thread

Reminder to all. Next 3 Gun match is happening at CDTSA Milo on Aug 21st.

We are making some tweaks to help reduce the time we are spending there but still be prepared for a full day.

Will be another fun one. (Think this one will be a bit more technically difficult). Dont think too many people will be yelling "Dammit Karl". More will be yelling "Dammit Jeff" when they see his stage design :D

Are you guys going to be showing up the afternoon before and setting up ? I was going to come help set up last time.... but I experience major camper issues :( This time I should have everything all ready to go if you still need help.

All help is greatly appreciated and much needed for these events to run - so thank you!

Plan is to get to Milo at 3 pm on Saturday the 20th. We'll start setting up then. We're allowed to camp on the range for the night so you can bring campers or tents if you don't want to do the drive again first thing in the morning.

You need to be a CDTSA member for insurance reasons to be on the range during setup on the Saturday though.

If anyone else is able to come down to help please PM me or post here.
