Hi everyone!

CDTSA will once again be holding 3 3-Gun matches this year. Mark your calendars for:

June 4 - Round Count https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1523563-2017-CDTSA-3-Gun-Schedule?p=13833032&viewfull=1#post13833032

September 24 - Round Count https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1523563-2017-CDTSA-3-Gun-Schedule?p=14137127&viewfull=1#post14137127

As always, we will be setting up the day before and permitting camping overnight.

It is very important that we get a good turnout to help set up the match the day before, as well as help from all the participants to put stuff away when we're done. These are fun matches, but they can only happen if everyone chips in to help.

Here are some answers to questions that I'm sure a lot of you have. If you want some clarification on any of my answers, let me know. If this information brings up more questions, let me know.

Update (Feb 15)
Directions to the range - On our website, we have a downloadable map to the Milo range. Please pay very close attention to the requirement to come down Range Road 223 and backtrack along Township Road 184. This keeps your dust out of our closest neighbours on Range Road 224, plus it's a safer road (less hills). If this map is in any way unclear, please let me know and I'll see if I can cook up a version that can be downloaded directly to Google Maps on your phone for turn-by-turn awesomeness.

Registration and timeline - We register people the day of the match, first thing in the morning. This year, we would like to have everyone at the range for 9:00 AM. We will begin the safety briefing at 9:30 AM sharp. Attendance at the safety briefing is mandatory. If you arrive after the safety briefing, you will be turned away. For those of you that have been to our matches before, this is something we have been more relaxed on before, but it's changing, so be on time to avoid disappointment.

Black Badge and other Certifications - We do not require holster courses. There may be parts of the courses of fire that are different if you do not have a holster course related to whether or not you start a stage with a round in the chamber of your pistol. We do, however, frequently require you to start with an empty pistol regardless of training or certification as part of the challenge for a specific stage. Our matches are set up to appeal to both 3-Gun aficionados as well as first-timers.

Round Count - Typically, we keep the match round count in the neighbourhood of 150, total. That is any combination of pistol, rifle, shot shells, and slugs. Prior to the match, we will announce an overall breakdown. For example "Match X on day Y will require 50 pistol, 75 rifle, 18 shot shells, and 6 slugs." I will stress that you should always bring extra ammo. The round counts are for a 'perfect' score, and we don't see many perfect scores. Additionally, if there is a failure of range equipment (timer, prop failure, etc), you may be required to reshoot a stage. I'm typically showing up to a match with probably 4x as much ammo as I need, but I like to make people feel good by missing a lot.

Amenities - We're far enough from the nearest town that you cannot run off to get lunch, water, sunscreen, etc during the match. We're an outdoor range. Sometimes it's hot, sometimes it's cold, sometimes it's windy, sometimes it's muddy. I would recommend bringing an entire change of clothes, just in case. If you have a cart for carrying all your stuff, bring it. Our range is built on a 1/4 section, so there's some walking involved when going from stage to stage. Plan to move your stuff around by carrying it or using a cart. Bring lunch, water, sunscreen, bug spray, a hat, sunglasses, etc. See the rule book for information on carts.

Rules - Our official rule book is here: http://www.cdtsa.ca/uploads/1/2/7/1/12719138/cdtsa_3gun_rules_2016_final.pdf

Ammunition - See the rule book for information on permissible ammunition. The Coles Notes version is that we do not allow any ammunition with steel penetrator cores. If your bullets stick to a magnet, they will not be allowed. NOTE: The bullet cannot stick. Steel-cased ammo with lead-core bullets is 100% fine.

Ahhhh crap. I work week on week off. All three of these matches are scheduled for my weeks on. Boo.

I have a feeling this will be the year of scheduling conflicts. There are so many great matches going on with 3gun, PRS, steel challenge, etc that it will be tough to attend them all across southern Alberta alone. It's a good problem to have though - just not when work schedules get in the way.

Looking forward to another year of it! hopefully the Medicine Hat folks will adjust their matches accordingly.

Medicine Hat matches are all posted on the clubs website calendar: www.mhrrc.ca/view.php?action=calendar&header=Calendar%20of%20Events

Medicine Hat Matches:
April 29th, Top Gun Match (pistol only)
May 27th, 3 gun
Aug 19th, 3 gun
Sept 16th, 3 gun
Oct 28th, Halloween 3 gun

Plus all the cowboy stuff is listed on there as well. I haven't herd anything from Lethbridge yet.

I heard that TheJeff hacked into everyone's online calendars and cross referenced dates the best he could to optimize for the best attendance. That's the kind of dedication we're looking at here.

The stuff I've seen... Ze goggles! Zey do nothing!

Yes!

We're working on finalizing the round count. As per usual, we will be releasing the totals for each type of round, but we won't break it down by stage. Keep in mind that the published round count is for a *perfect score*. It is my recommendation to always be equipped for way more than the perfect score.

As with last year, we will begin setting up the day before starting at noon. Volunteers to help with setup are greatly appreciated. In fact, volunteers are what makes these matches happen - without your help, we cannot get these things organized and set up. Please, let me know (send me a PM) if you're able to come out and help us set up on Saturday.

We will be camping out overnight at the range. Anyone who wants to join us is welcome - especially if you help us set up (hint hint). It also means you get to sleep in on Sunday, since you don't have to drive.

I'm going to say this again to emphasize the point - registration will start at 0900 and the *mandatory* safety briefing starts at 0930. Be there. On time.

so, if we hope to camp out. Show up with camper prior to noon so that we can setup camp site and then help with range setup. Correct?
Are there directions or specifics on where to pull in if no one is around when we arrive?

Typically we've been setting campers up on the southern edge of the flat spot by the mutigun bays.

That's the rough area where we've been parking.

For people who are not members, or members that do not go to Milo regularly, the conditions of our operating permit require people to come down Range Road 223 and backtrack on Township Road 184. Please do not come down RR224 - it's hilly and dusts out our neighbours who already graciously deal with our noise.

Hey Everyone,

We're just about to release the round count, pending some last-minute adjustments. I'm trying to gauge how many volunteers we can count on for setup on Saturday. Please PM me if you're going to make it out to help. Keep in mind that we waive the match fees for anyone who comes out to help set up on Saturday.

A bunch of us are shooting the Taber PRS match on Saturday but are camping at the Milo campground. No promises but hopefully we can come help.

I appreciate it. Unfortunately our match is the same weekend as the Taber shoot. I'm working around my own on-call schedule at work, so that's why the dates got picked the way they did.
