Hello Gunnutz

I am excited to announce that CDTSA will be making a few changes to it steel challenge match as well as offering a few 8 stages matches for this year.

The matches hosted by CDTSA and commonly referred to as "Steel Challenge" are "outlaw" matches not officially sanctioned by the Steel Challenge Shooting Association and not bound by their rules. But we will follow there rules for the most part with a few changes. This is a for fun Match. Courses of fire require hits on 5 steel targets including a "stop" plate which ends the course of fire. You will shoot multiple passes on a stage. Your score is based on time to complete the stage plus any penalties. Most Steel shooting courses of fire require little or no movement. Penalties are 3 seconds for a missed target. Shooter may take as many shoots required to hit a target but you may not go back to hit a missed target after the stop plate has been hit. The CDTSA will hold two types of matches. One will be a one stage weekly event held at the Sheppard range. The other will be a 8 stage match held at the Milo range.

Sheppard weekly match
The matches start on April 13 and end on September 21. They are on every Thursdays starting at 5pm weather permitting. One of the 8 stages or a random stages will be setup. Shooters can compete in a maximum of two Divisions. Ten strings are shot per division. The Ten strings will be shot in 2 separate attempts of 5 strings each. Divisions
O – Open
REV- Revolver
SEMI- semi auto center fire
RFP- Rimfire pistol(Iron and Optics)
RFR- Rimfire rifle(Iron and Optics)

Equipment: Centerfire pistols require a strong side holster. Rimfire pistols must be bagged or holstered when not on the firing line. Rimfire rifles must be bagged when not on the firing line. Rimfire is .22 LR only. No .17 or .22 Magnum caliber guns allowed. No Magnum velocity Centerfire guns allowed. Jacketed ammo is now allowed due the club getting new steel targets. It is recommended to have a minimum of 5 magazines or reloading devises.
Start Position: Centerfire pistols must draw from a holster, starting in the "Surrender position". We require that you have taken a holster course. We accept other clubs as well as black badge. If you do not have one you will be asked to start from the low ready. Rimfire pistols and rifles start pointing at the start object (pylon) 10ft in front of the shooting box with finger outside the trigger guard.

Here is a example of a 8 stage match that I shot at Brooks with a 629 revolver and 1911.

Can't wait for this season! Need to reload a lot more ammo!!

Are you you going to have a few more misses than in the video Aircav posted? =P

Good work Aircav! Well spelled out and the new addition of rimfire will surely make things easier for more to come out and enjoy the sport.

I think it goes without saying, these competitions really help with the basics of many sporting disciplines. If you ever see the results from 3G, most of the top competitors have or do shoot steel challenge.

I hope to return for a few thursday nights this year, as well as some of the Milo dates! Exciting!

Look up Steel Challenge. It will give distances of all 8 Stages. Think the furthest is 35yds for large rectangular targets. Everything else is much closer. Red Dot would be best bet.
