I have read many posts about the many makes and models of pistols, and judging by the EE on pistols - it appears that we fall in and out of love with semi-auto's. If you have a moment or two - please post why you loved it (and bought it) and why you sold it...and what you moved on to....

For the record I am still in love with my Gen 3 Tenifer Glock 20....;)

Happy New Year!!

I'll play.

I bought a few this year and most have been all that I expected, however, one was an unexpected disappointment; the Pardini GT9-6. I bought the gun after having some experience with Pardini rimfire products and seeing nothing but glowing reviews online. There was a passing mention of large grip size, but I have reasonably sized hands and have no issues with the CZ TS and other fatties.

True to form the gun that arrived was high quality, low bore-axis, massive barrel, incredibly tight, too smooth to believe, with a trigger like nothing else I have ever felt on a centrefire handgun. The gun ran smoother than any custom 1911 I've ever had and better even than my P210. And the trigger is truly a work of art with exceptional levels of adjustment. When I picked it up, yep, it was big but felt good. Range time!

First range trip I brought 300 rds with me. I started shooting, groups were good but nothing special, but it was my first go and the sights are bigger than what I'm used to with a very wide front blade. By the fifth magazine my hand felt beat to crap and nothing was working out. The wide and flat duckbill/beavertail was killing the web of my hand like no other gun I've shot, specifically nearest my trigger finger. Same thing happened a couple more times and that was it.

I sold the gun a few weeks later and bought another Sig X5. I still believe the Pardini to be an exceptional gun and would encourage anybody looking for a high end centrefire to consider it. Attempt to try before you buy, but worst case you won't lose much selling. As for the X5/6.....they're perfection for me.

Glocks as usual turned me off ;) but will see in 2018, may end up being that love hate thing :)

For me this year, I fell in love with the Glock, specifically the G19, which surprised me a lot, because I don't actually like the look of them and had never even considered owning one until I shot it. The damn thing just works for me and I shoot it better than any other handgun I have tried,,,so I guess I became a Glock fan this year lol.
On the other hand, as much as I love the look of them, I just can't like the 1911,,,and it kills me because I think they are beautiful and I wish I loved them.
The other gun that surprised me this year was the Sig 220 in .45, I think I might have to own one :)

My favorite purchase for 2017 is my Colt 1911 and my least favorite was my sd9ve, that gun started out ok but then I held another 9mm and the sd9 had to go.

I had my first Sig experience this year with buying a P210-2 in January and an X-5 Scandic in the summer. Neither gun disappointed and I am a confirmed fan of both of these models now. When i got the P210 it became my favourite pistol. After the X5 it's now my favourite service pistol and the X-5 is the all around favourite :d

I wasn't really unhappy with any of my finds this year but if I had to pick one it was perhaps either my HK P7 PSP or the Manurhin MR88.

The HK is a very interesting gun and will very likely stay in my collection. It's finely made and a very interesting design but it wasn't a great shooter for me the two times I had it out. It may well just be a case of getting used to the grip cocker but time will tell. In any event I think it's probably a keeper if only for the cool factor. (and that it's as close as I'm ever likely to get to owning a prohib size pistol :( )

The Manurhin is a really nice gun as well with a very good trigger. I can't put my finger on it but I was left feeling slightly underwhelmed. I think perhaps it was simply a case of unreasonably high expectations after reading about Manurhin for years. While it's a seriously nice revolver it may go if I find a MR73 this year.

Well, I didn't buy anything this year I didn't like to be honest. I built another AR which turned out to be my favorite to date.
I bought a gen 3 Glock 19 with the rare-ish OD a green frame because I've always had a soft spot for the old school OD green glocks. Although I subsequently sold my black 19 of the same style, because I couldn't justify having 2 19's.
Purchased a CZ Evo (also not a pistol) just so I can MP5 slap the bolt closed, also love shooting it.
And then I ended up purchasing on a complete whim, a gen 3 Glock 21SF with the pic rail & ambi mag release. We'll see if I like it or not once it arrives but boy I'm looking forward to it!

Nice. I'd say 2017 has been a good year all around for you sailor.

Haven't held one I'm sure the MR88 is a upgrade to the standard offerings. However, if you have the MR73 on your radar and it is feasibly in reach, just about everything else will seem like a compromise.

Thanks. Yes, 2017 was quite successful in terms of "finds". I also found an early occupation Radom and a Remington Rand 1911 but topic of this thread doesn't really apply to them as they are more collectors than shooters. Still, they fall into the "glad to have" category.

Thanks everyone for your replies and posts.
Interesting to read the wants and wishes as we mature through the ownership/shooting of various semi's.
Always wondered y so many <300 round pistols change hands.
Glad though as I've bought a few....;)

Hard to narrow down a favourite, but I'll go with my Colt 1911 just because it was my first.

Biggest turnoff was hands down the Glock 19, and I say that as someone that likes Glocks.

Two Walther's and three Beretta's wondered into my house during the fall. Looks like my M&P's get a rest next spring. The Walthers are going nowhere soon. They maybe the last of the handgun toys....which is what I said when I bought the M&P's and Rugers

Take Care

Bob
