My choice was the new Glock 17 generation V. The FBI licked the right gun for their new sidearm, the US Army.....not such a great choice.
New internal barrel profile, new finish, total reliability. I want one!

For me, I like the following; CZ style 9mms, 1911, High Standard semi .22s, Webley Enfields,. Ones I don't like, Ruger Blackhawk, Cold snubnose .38, I could never hit anything with either of those.

In 2017 three pistols came....
M&P9, M&P22 and a SAM 1911 .45.
So far “ON” for all three.
Slightly “OFF” 1911 because of some feeding issues but I like a hobby and a challenge so I’m working at making it perfect. I now know this gun better than any other.
For 2018 I'm planning on a revolver to join them in the safe, so you could say I’m “ON” to them. My two choice are S&W 686 or Ruger GP100 in .357. The GP is first choice right now.

Two that turned me off... I wont name them, because the only real fault was I found their triggers to be too light for my preferences, there was nothing fundamentally wrong with either, I just care for triggers so light I cant feel them.

On the other hand, I quite like the Beretta APX, and the Arsenal Strike1 was interesting (light trig, low muzzle rise and recoil, seemed to cycle fast).

But, although I did not shoot it, the one I am liking most, is Sig's 1911 "Emperor Scorpion". It looks unique and cool, the action is surprisingly smooth, the grip panels form a magazine funnel, and the grip is extremely grippy, even the mainspring housing has an aggressive grip. But too pricey for me at this time.

Bought my first two pistols this year, one was well planned, one was cheap and a complete impulse buy.

Love my Shadow. Still completely stock, may look into upgrading springs eventually, BB course sometime in the spring


Grew to really dislike the Sig/GSG 1911-22. You may see it on the EE soon, or it must just get dumped in the back of the safe

My first CZ85. Wanted one since the early 90's (late 80's?) Guns & Ammo "Wonder Nine" magazine eddition, but settled into a .45 funk instead. I always had my boring yet utterly reliable Gen 2 9mm Glock, but now have renewed love for the 9mm since I picked up my beater '85

Biggest turnoff was hands down the Glock 19, and I say that as someone that likes Glocks.

Same, they just feel wrong in my hand. My gen4 G17 is a keeper tho!

I had my first Sig experience this year with buying a P210-2 in January and an X-5 Scandic in the summer. Neither gun disappointed and I am a confirmed fan of both of these models now. When i got the P210 it became my favourite pistol. After the X5 it's now my favourite service pistol and the X-5 is the all around favourite

I wasn't really unhappy with any of my finds this year but if I had to pick one it was perhaps either my HK P7 PSP or the Manurhin MR88.

The HK is a very interesting gun and will very likely stay in my collection. It's finely made and a very interesting design but it wasn't a great shooter for me the two times I had it out. It may well just be a case of getting used to the grip cocker but time will tell. In any event I think it's probably a keeper if only for the cool factor. (and that it's as close as I'm ever likely to get to owning a prohib size pistol )

The Manurhin is a really nice gun as well with a very good trigger. I can't put my finger on it but I was left feeling slightly underwhelmed. I think perhaps it was simply a case of unreasonably high expectations after reading about Manurhin for years. While it's a seriously nice revolver it may go if I find a MR73 this year.

As for equipment it was bitter sweet...
Turn ons: Canik TP9SFx and the SIG P320 X five.
Turn offs: Canik TP9SFx and the SIG P320 X five.
Both are perfect for this new division but are specifically not allowed by IPSC.
Hopefully the division takes off in 2018 and the manufacturers offer compliant pistols shortly.

There are others that do. I went with Walther Q5 Match which is Optic ready. The M&P Pro of course is as well. The Walther is one sweet shooter with arguably the best rigger of any striker fired pistol out of the box. From my limited experience the dovetail mount system offers challenges that optic ready slides don't require you to overcome. You can install a 6lb trigger return spring in five minutes on the Walther to ensure you remain above 5lbs.
