It’s a custom, 131 prefix serial number that left the factory as a 30-06. I know who had it built but not when or who did the work. Nikon 1.5 x 4.5 scope, it shoots as good as it looks!

Interesting in that it either started as an "S" and had the "B" forearm added or it started as a "B" and had the sights added... OR an "S" barrel (looks too heavy for an "A"), in a short action sub-caliber was rebored and rifled to .358... very interesting no matter which way it got done. Nice rifle... I have thought of doing something similar for many years in either and RSI or A version, in .348, .356 or .358... but strongly leaning to .348.

It was a B, the barrel is 24” and front sight is not factory, different profile with plunger to remove front sight at muzzle end, rib and rear sight are factory. My guess is custom barrel as no other markings other than caliber. I would love to know the history but unfortunately the gentleman that owned it is no longer with us. He was a No 1 collector that had at least 30 of them in the 80’s . Use to love going for a visit just to stare at them

Went up north for my first bear hunt (solo). With little ability or interest in baiting, i decided to try my hand at spot and stalk using the clearcuts. Plan was to find blueberries and put the slip on some bears, easy enough. Basically wasted the first hunt day setting up camp, trying to get my bearings and figure the area out a bit. Found what i was looking for on day 2 evening with loads of blueberry bushes in a particular clearcut, only problem was 99% of bushes didn't have a berry on them. Found decent amount of scat in a small stretch on the way in on the logging road, which was encouraging as it was all blue purple colour so i assumed the berries were still going but i kept driving another 20km past to my predetermined area, which i think was my biggest mistake. The next 20km and rest of the logging roads i drove to get to my campsite i only found 1 more pile of scat and it wasn't the berry colour. I think i should have stayed in the area where i found the initial sign as there were clearly still berries and bears feeding in that area. Didn't see a bear for the next 4 days. Learned a lot though going hunting that far north myself and have a much better idea of what to expect next year. I will be going up a few weeks earlier to time the berries better.

Tagged out Thursday evening.

I've had at least 2 bear on camera and have been sitting in the evenings, but they really didn't have a pattern. Hadn't seen one at all in the first week.

Thursday afternoon, went in and rebaited, checked the cam and settled in.

About 6:45 I heard a squirrel losing it and saw a patch of black in the thicket, the bear walked out half way between the barrel and the stand (25 yards) and turned broadside. One shot and some flopping around and it was over. app 175 lb sow.

1952 Marlin 336 in 35 Rem with 200 gr interlocks over lever evolution powder. First game I've taken with my hand loads

Now if I can pry the kid away from the phone and the friends, we'll get him one too.

Congrats to the other successful hunters!
