Well this was my second Black Bear hunting season ever and my first bear!!!! Last fall myself and a couple hunting buddies decided to start bear hunting in 2018 as a result of the dwindling moose tag situation we have here in Ontario. Up until this year I primarily just hunted deer, moose and small game. I have to say, there is a lot more work involved to bear hunting then I thought, between this spring and fall I put a tone of miles on my truck, atv and my boots. Anyone that says hunting over bait is easy has either never done it or does it with an outfitter that does all the work for them. Anyways I couldn't be more excited/satisfied to get my first bear and really appreciate all the help and info I got from some of the more knowledgeable senior members on here , I'm not sure it would have gone as well without them!
So this boar was taken Sunday Sept 9th at 1800hrs in WMU 61 a little north of Bon Echo Park, he weighed in at 210lbs dressed out so guessing around 230-240lbs standing. Walked in quiet as a mouse at about 35yrds and looked right up at me with his big pumpkin head and as soon as I saw those little ears I knew I was going to take him. Shot him slightly quartering me, bullet went in in front of his right shoulder, punctured his right and left lung and the top of his heart and exited his left rib cage. He ran roughly 20yrds and let out an amazing death moan and expired.
This was an exciting three firsts for me, this was my first bear, first big game taken in this WMU and first animal taken at our new camp!
