2018 RIMFIRE goals?

Now I'm not the smartest with priorities but the Wifie is top of the list 24/7, 365 days a year...... ;)

All the rest of the stuff is just window dressing.... But I'm seriously going back and forth with the thought of an Annie mistress just to contradict what I just typed, whims are fickle like that!!

^I can see that. :) My big purchase of 2017 was a model 64 MP R "tactical trainer" from Nordic Marksman. Remarkable gun, and Nordic (Brad) is superb to deal with. The stock is definitely a bench/prone only thing...but both are how I shoot HB rifles anyway. The trigger on that rifle is the nicest I've ever used..and I've shot some dandy ones!

13 eh? So I shouldn't feel guilty about looking at another 452 Varmint in 22LR...even though I have one? :)

It’s like potatoe chips you can’t stop at just 1 or 5 or 10 and the rumour of a new one next year and your eyes start to glaze over and your CC starts to smoke.

I want a Win 9422 or 9422M

I would buy a .17hmr for a gun to take while checking trail cams since it would pack enough punch to deter any coyotes if I bring my dogs along. But of course it needs to be light.

Trying VERY hard not to think about the new models CZ has cooking up. :) If the barrels are threaded into the receivers like the 452s...I may not be able to resist picking one up to play with. I'm almost hoping they're a 2019 thing. :)

My rimfire goal in 2018 is to try to achieve success in the 50yd 1/2" Challenge with 2 more rifles. So far I have been successful with my Dlask/Kidd 10/22, CZ455 TH and Anschutz MPR. I have a DPMS AR15 .22lr upper that is very accurate and I think it may be capable of completing the challenge. I also have a Ruger 10/22 Takedown that I am working hard to qualify with.

I picked up two new Norinco NS522's and I'm going to pillar and Devcon bed them, float the barrels, work the trigger springs and smooth everything out. I have rings and a scope for one, the other will wait a bit. I'll be done by the end of March, ready for gopher season!

Isn't it just too bad that for such reasons we can't have an 'attachment' to a hunting license just to 'holster' a 9mm/45/etc pistol, just to come along for the ride?! Pretty sad.

Nice score! let's see some custom work!

I plan to shoot a minimum of 5000 rounds out of my 4 rimfires.
I want to practice and get better with my MKIII & S&W 41 pistols.
Next summer I hope to do the 50 yard challenge with my CZ 452 Varmint, and or my Kidd heavy barrel Ruger 10/22.
Depending on money, I would like to pick up a Kriss Defiance Dmk22c LVOA AR-22, & a S&W Model 17 with a 4" full underlug barrel.
I too am hoping the new CZ comes out in 2019. If I win the lotto, I will be looking very hard at an Anschutz 1710 HB, and a Sako P94 Finnfire Varmint.

"Gophers"...the little ground squirrels that have changed both my spending habits, AND the way I use vacation time. :) Can't WAIT to get out there again!

Are you popping gophers with rimfire only or do you mix in some centerfire for longe range or more explosion?

Well, I'm fortunate to have struck-up good relationships with some landowners out there...in a very "target-rich" part of Alberta. Quite frankly, the number of targets kind of dictates that it be a rimfire affair Hoyt. To give you an idea, I sent-out 5K of 22LR, and 1.5K of 17HMR back in 2016. We shot over 4K of the 22, 1K+ of the HMR and 250 rounds of 12ga. I'd love to be using my .223 (or new 17H) for a good part of that, but it's an economy thing to be perfectly honest. These are working farms/ranches too...and in spite of what the hell-raisers will tell you, the land owners out there do prefer you use rimfires.

A buddy of mine from Calgary brought down some of his toys last time there, a SAKO Varmint in .223, an RPR in 6.5 CM, a Marlin 1895G in 45/70, a Tikka CTR in .308, etc. I shot gophers will all of those but without a doubt, the .223 hits were nothing short of spectacular. If I lived out there, .223/.204R would factor into every shoot...but as a visiting gopher-slayer, it's a very rimfire-centric week. I honestly don't mind.

I will add~I bought one of those Neal Waltz hollow-point kits for my reloading press a few years back. All of my 22 goes through that for these trips, one round at a time. REALLY hits gophers hard, as in with HMR-like results. Instant bang/flop..usually with gooey bits flying around too.

So to answer your question...rimfire only, shotgun sometimes. :)

I want to finish customizing my 2 rimfires (both rugers), one is a very high end custom build that just needs a new Receiver and bolt, the other is a mostly stock Mannlicher and tech sights that still needs a trigger and mild internals. Then I want to go to another mapleseed and shoot a rifleman score with iron sights and see if I can beat my previous scoped rifle score of 246/250. Other then that start building the new range on the family ranch (800m).

Attend another Mapleseed.
Buy a set of NRL22 targets and run a match.
Work on longer range shooting (300m).
Attend a Vudoo Rimfire Series match - unlikely but still nice to dream about.

Complete the 5 shot, 5 ground 1/2" challenge with my 10/22 and possibly CM-2 with peeps.

Enjoy one of the most fun calibers to shoot.

Maybe reduce the gopher population a little for some land owners.

Lastly, and most importantly, show the experience of shooting to my nephew.

One definite rimfire goal for this year, and that is attend a Mapleseed with my son (he's 8). He's a fantastic little shooter - safe, he loves it, and he's gifted with youthful good vision. Getting his Rifleman's patch won't be something I trump up or stress him with, but I think he's capable and Daddy (and he!) would sure be proud if he did it. :d

We've already popped a rabbit with our little Marlin Papoose, and that will be the excuse for more winter adventures... so maybe more delicious bunnies should be on my list of rimfire goals, too.
